If there is paper to start and confirmation is needed, then I don't see how the process can be cut down any further than what is there other than automating the file name, watermark the barcode and the software "filing" the doc in the system against the patient.

      Exactly.
In our case, a person must tell the system what type of document it is, and what do do with it once it's uploaded. That can either be done, and the output generates a barcode - the barcode goes on the page - then scan/upload to the sytem.
OR the person scan/uploads the document - then while confirming it's on the screen - they tell what kind of document it is and what to do with it.

To me the barcode is a huge waste of everything. AND introduces a failure point (what if the scan does a bad job on the barcode?

I'm guessing you probably have users that misclassify scans too? What is required if that happens?

that's called just being human - If it happens though - I'm fortunately completely unaware of it.
I assume if it's misclassified, that whoever finds it can change it - or task it to someone with admin rights (but not me) with a request to fix it.

Now all of that said - there is equal chance of misclassifying it when making a barcode versus classifying it on the fly after uploading the image.

I want to install a piece of software on the license server this afternoon to finish off a project and it will require a reboot.

I wanted to reboot it in the middle of the day but don't want to cause an issue and get "The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers available ...."

Don't need 30-40 calling with an issue.

wow - OK... While my gut tells me you'd be fine - the issue I would expect you to POSSIBLY get is someone trying to sign in right while the reboot is happening - but otherwise I would expect everything else to just stay running. But don't really know.

I was thinking the same thing. As they say, timing is everything.

I am always confused by single vs double quotes and when to use them. I will take your advice and use single first.

Single quotes are literal, double quotes resolve variables, expressions, cmdlets, anything with a $ or $() in double quotes.

It probably is bricked. The same happened to my ER-X when firmware 2 came out. I got it booted eventually over serial cable, and if I remember correctly it displayed something about internal storage.

I noticed others have had the same issue in the past.

I just saw the serial connection setup. Did you just use the USB-TTL device to connect?

The part that bugs me is I had check the storage issue prior to upgrade. Had 58% free so I figured I would be ok.

      I used this cable:
      https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QT7LQ88?psc=1

I didn't bother with recovery, I just wanted to see what the issue was. I bought another ER-X and kept it on 1.x firmware.

      Thanks for pointing!

@pmoncho tab indentation needs to die in nuclear fire.

Thankfully, modern IDE systems like Visual Studio Code and others all auto swap a tab for 4 spaces by default.

Personally, I prefer a 2 space indentation, but 4 seems to be the most common.

I didn't think Tab's were that big of a deal as I never had an issue between Vi, Nano, Notepad or Notepad++. I guess it is mostly a habit from using text editors.

Hmm... I always hated having press the space bar more than twice (only after "." mostly). Maybe I will try using two spaces in the next script to see how that pans out.

@pmoncho That seems like a complete overspend for the need. Although there might not be a better way

No, it keeps the boot off the data raid array.
You can do the same with something straight on the sata bus, but a minor expense gives you a dedicated boot raid array

I agree you want the boot/hypervisor not on the main array... but I'm assuming these BOSS setups aren't cheap.. definitely no where near as cheep as a USB stick or SD Card. Likely 100's of time more, if not 1000's more. that's all I am getting at.

BOSS card is just a card, it uses standard NVMe drives. So you are looking at $100 in drives retail for a pair of 250GB drives.
They don't have the issues of SD or USB with wear, thus removing an entire fail domain.

If you have a Dell server with SD boot, then you already had a BOSS card, so there is no difference in the expense.

OK - nice to know they are that reasonable... still tons more expensive than USB, but a ton safer too.

No one boots current hardware to USB. No one. It was only a thing for a couple years in fact.

/sigh - yes Jared, I'm aware of the change.

The app supports it unless you proctect it in the first place. which you should..

It has nothing to do with the service.

I don't recall such a conversation - I'm specifically talking about push notifications - I was unaware that third parties were able to register for and receive push notifications like Google and MS (and frankly Apple) provide their MFA apps.

This is a whole other topic again.

When do you think apps stopped being able to do push notifications? That's all it is.

huh? The MS authenticator registers itself for push notifications from MS, GA does from Google - are you saying you can do that with Authy for google and microsoft services?

I completely understand that I can add TOTP to Authy for MS and Google, but I quoted and am specifically asking about push notifications from those via Authy.

My google foo is finding nothing but people bitching about how authy does NOT support push, but does support TOTP.

Now all that said - I see that Authy has created One Touch - and that One Touch as an API that allows push notifications, but I can't find anywhere that says that Google/MS have enabled that feature.

      Thanks group.

At this time, we currently we use Kerio Connect for email (users use webmail function not Outlook connector). That will hopefully change in the future based on changes that are currently happening at work.

I will check into the shared mailbox scenario also. Nice to know that there are possible options out there. Armed with the search terms, it definitely helps when researching my current and future email apps.

      What's wrong with kerio?

It was bought by GFI. That is the biggest issue. Large price increase and development prior to their purchase was much better. Support is not what it use to be either.

I'm being a little @scottalanmiller'ish as it has become more of a moral issue. πŸ™‚

Plus, I would like to eventually SasS.

EDIT: Prior to GFI, I really liked Kerio. Stable release updates and support was awesome. Felt they had a huge chip on their shoulder and wanted to kick MS Exchange A$$. That trait is now gone and it reflects in their product.

If you're being Scottish.. then you don't want to look at Hosted Exchange. πŸ˜‰ If you're like him, you'll look at Zoho.

They will be on the list if they can help me with this situation.

That's who we use and we are very happy.

When I export the key, I want to export the private key as well?

That depends. If you are only ever going to have devices using the key to auth against the DC that you created it on, then no.

But if you need to install the cert on a device and then have another device auth to that first device, then that first device needs the private key.

      Thank you for the explanation.

@dbeato said in Powershell - Find GPO's for specific Group:

Aside from the script you are looking for, is there a reason why the delegation is that way or are you trying to limit access to those GPOs? Or cleaning them up?

      Its all of the above.

I created multiple GPO's (limiting the scope of each GPO) that affect only certain groups on the same RDS server. This is due to the upcoming changes in our LOB application and moving to our new 2019 RDS servers. I wanted to make it as easy for my internal users and external remote clients to have what the need while limiting access as much as possible (yes, I do believe I over-complicated things).

The main reason for the script was cleanup. It was rough finding the groups I delegated to each specific GPO's instead of fumbling through each one.

I see, make it then a habit also to document changes πŸ™‚ That will help ( I know I am stating the obvious) but it comes to bite you in the rear end a lot of times if not in place.

You are NOT kidding. I had a decent doc going but a little laziness and getting side tracked by management, and here we are! ugh! Lol

@Dashrender said in Netgear Insight Managed Switches:

For $100, yeah I'd just do it. Otherwise you're looking at 2-4 (or so) 1 Gb/s teamed connections....

Exactly. I was thinking something similar also.

I don't need HA but am looking for a little more speed and more simple setup going forward. One cable vs 2-3 (tiny, tiny part of larger plan), consolidating hosts (soon), creating midday backup plan without penalizing daily workers, plus other changes I am contemplating for the future.

I do want to put the available budget to the best use to get the best value, plus a small morsel for the future too.

yeah, really it does come down to more than just this single port for this server -

Do you need two connections in case one fails? Do you need two switches in the backplane in case one fails? How many other SPF+ ports do you need?

We don't know how many ports you need where.

I try to keep things simple but not any simpler as the phrase goes.

We are an SMB with about 30 users and about 25 external clients that use our servers.
I don't have a need for multiple connections to multiple switches. I do have two separate racks though.

One two post rack that holds Patch Panels for PC's and phones, Switches for phones (on a separate network), switch for pc's/printers and main router.

Second rack has all servers (4 total), two NAS's (old and new), SSL-VPN, switch for servers (currently connected via SPF+ to pc/printer switch)

I was thinking, three SPF+ for three vMware Hosts (one is backup server) and one SPF+ over to 2nd switch for PC's and Printers.

I don't NEED SPF+ just like I don't NEED SSD's in the new server (purchasing soon) but if the extra cost is small why not spend it and be done while also keeping things a little more simple.
Extra $150 for 10Gb simplifies two or three 1Gb connection. Extra $200 for two SSD's in RAID 1 vs 6 10K SAS in RAID 10.

We keep our equipment around a long time, especially servers (7 years with Dell's warranty). This, IMHO, helps me get the value out of the extra money spent.

When using UPD, is there anyway to access various users profiles' folders and files from the RDS server file system?
      Example:
      C:\Users\Bob\Desktop

Edit: I found that I can path to it via UNC (\ \server\c$\users\Bob\Desktop), but get permissions error when I go locally, from C:\Users\Bob\Desktop. Also, the Bob folder is only a shortcut (LNK file) in the users directory.

That is what I HATE about roaming folders... they simply do not act the same as local folders!

I typically download things to the desktop and execute from there. But when on a system that has a desktop redirected to the server - that fails 99% of the time, I have to move the executable to something actually local, then execute it.

It's not uncommon at all. Your other drives are most likely to fail during a rebuild due to the added stress of continual access during this process.
That's what makes something like RAID 5 on spinning rust so scary.

If all of the drives in the array are of similar age and from the same batch, I'd plan on swapping them all within the next while as each successive rebuild takes its toll on the remaining drives.

Agreed - and double check those backups.

I have doubled and tripled checked. Did a couple restores today with single files and also entire VM's. (Currently using Veeam)

Should, of course. No software ever goes in the /home directory. But need to? No, root can use any directory.

      Will work on this. Thanks

If you are using NeDB, it is super simple to move the data file. If you are using MongoDB, the database is always still there on the same port.

That too. But even without discounts, big shops get a scale benefit that is huge as well.
