So this morning, no one on RDS had printers again.

      WTF..

So I manually added a printer direclty on the RDS server (not from the Print Server (the DC)). IT showed up immediately on all users and was able to be printed to.

So I manually added all the printers direct. Issues resolved for the moment.

how do we reset it to allow for updated devices?

Open "RD Licensing manager", browse for device who's license you want to "revoke", leftclick on it and choose "Revoke license"
As said, up to 20% of total licenses can be revoked before expiry.

Besides a comport setting difference (which isn't relevant) I can't see a difference.

The right hand side is the one that works.

      Sorted this out.
For some reason the install was setting Allow Global IP and Allow Default Route.
Once I unticked these and ticked All Managed IP it all began working.

@dbeato Good thing to have. I just recently migrated to RDS with UPD. Have you checked out Sidder?
      https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Sidder-Quickly-see-which-fa6360b3

Yeah, Sidder just tells you the VHDX file location and the user but doesn't unmount it and you cannot copy from Sidder the path.

There is a github repo of it here

@black3dynamite said in Windows Server 2016 RDS - GPO for Disabling Windows Update Notifications for Non-Admins/Users?:

@wrx7m Is that a computer configuration or user configuration policy? Try applying the rules to only non-admins groups.

Yeah, it is at the computer level. I would like to do it via user config but I only want them to apply to users on the RD servers. I need to figure out the proper way to structure AD/GPOs to not screw up everything else.

I am guessing creating another OU as a sub container and move the RD servers into.

Edit: Since it isn't GPP, there isn't any item level targeting, so I can't do it that way.

If you can make those changes directly in the registry, maybe can allow you to use GPP and item level targeting.

Hmmm. That makes sense. Let me mull it over.

      @wrx7m

Just curious, when you chose UPD, did you choose to store all settings or just certain folders?

Some applications don't play nicely with roaming profiles.

UPDs mount at the usual C:\Users\user.name and the applications can't tell a difference.

Right. But, only when the user is logged in. After they logout, that path doesn't exist. I am trying to figure out how to work around that for adding the custom (for each user) erp shortcut on their desktop in their session.

      Add the shortcut to C:\Users\Public\Desktop.
That way it will always show up on each user Desktop.

This would be nice and easy, but each user has a custom shortcut- It has a workstation ID in the target path.

      https://www.pdq.com/blog/pdq-deploy-and-powershell/
Create a script that creates the shortcut each user Desktop and append the workstation id in the target path.

@wrx7m said in RDS 2019 Setup and RDS License Role:

When using UPD, is there anyway to access various users profiles' folders and files from the RDS server file system?
      Example:
      C:\Users\Bob\Desktop

Edit: I found that I can path to it via UNC (\ \server\c$\users\Bob\Desktop), but get permissions error when I go locally, from C:\Users\Bob\Desktop. Also, the Bob folder is only a shortcut (LNK file) in the users directory.

That is what I HATE about roaming folders... they simply do not act the same as local folders!

I typically download things to the desktop and execute from there. But when on a system that has a desktop redirected to the server - that fails 99% of the time, I have to move the executable to something actually local, then execute it.

@scottalanmiller Yeah, RDW is the problem I understand now. Basically you can remote desktop without need of App Resources Proxy without any problems. But if you try to load the App Resources from a Windows 10 device then yes I understand now.

Yeah. It's a weird "Essentials only" issue, only on 2012 and older. From what I can tell.

Hi, Thanks for wonderful script that save my time.
Could You please guide me how we can run this script on multiple servers?

I tried foreach PowerShell method but it does not work.

From the ISE, load the script and then enter-pssession for each system. Once connected, run the script from the ise. Sorted.

Too bad it is KVM only right now. Not that KVM is bad, it's just early. The have LXC coming "soon" and that will be really awesome. I want VDI on LXC so that we can do it faster and on top of Scale HC3.

@networknerd said in Server 2016 Redirected Printer Change:

That's a new one I have not seen. We used Epicor ERP 10, and in that product I did see issues with RemoteApp where from time to time the user would not have a default printer selected in Epicor (sounds weird, I know), which would then crash any report they tried to print with an error that value of -1 was not allowed. Getting the user to change the printer to something in their list was the workaround.

Thanks for capturing this. I bet it will help someone else and looks to be already doing so.

YEah, that is what happens for this case, the RemoteApp shows the printer as a question mark. Once you go to File, Printer Setup and DoubleClick the printer then it is all good for the printer but all reporting shows in Portrait mode instead of Landscape mode.

That's essentially why the powershell script does... So you ran the script and you're still not getting correct RDP files from the RD Web site?

yeah, it didn't really work since it is not updating anything on the connection broker. I am going to redo it all...

      Curious.

You mean after I finish redoing it?

Just strange that it isn't working. I have Gateway, Web, and Connection Broker on same system here, so that could be part of it.
