I just wish the salt water in the NW wasnt so damn cold all the time. Puget Sound doesnt even make it to 60 degrees F, ever. The Pacific Ocean is just as cold or colder all year too.

RE: Windows 10 Anniversary Edition May Delete Partitions!
I thought this might have happened to me last night when i was installing the Anniversary Update. during the update it would restart and after choosing to boot off sda1 from grub(i have many boot options), it would go straight to the updating of the win 10 installation on my ssd instead of asking me if i wanted to boot win10 off ssd or another win10 installation i have on a different hdd. Just rebooted now and all is good though, the partitions show up and are bootable.

RE: Xenserver PV network card getting 169 IP
Does the correct ip address show for the vm properties in Xencenter? this can be an indicator of problems. if it shows unknown.
To remove the now non existant realtek nic you need to enable device manager to see disabled devices. You can then remove it.

RE: Shark Week
@travisdh1
Yes paddle boarding is great fun. Youre right the water is a huge shock. Especially if youre out when it gets above 90, then you jump in water that is mid 50s, it almost hurts. -
RE: Explosions rock SpaceX launch site in Florida during testing
I used to drive out to New Smyrna Beach when i lived in Orlando a couple times a week. Got to see quite a few rocket launches. One Shuttle launch, but i was in Orlando for that. Still i could hear it(60 miles) and it lit up the daylight sky like a sparkler at night.
Im sure spacex will get the problem fixed. Too bad it was an internet.org satellite though. -
RE: Spam from my own domain!
v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com aspmx.googlemail.com -all
are you sending emails from a or other mx records on your domain? If not you dont need to include them. This should work ok for you
I also like hard fails, but others dont. -
RE: Which IT role I am suitable and to which should I apply for ?
@wirestyle22 said in Which IT role I am suitable and to which should I apply for ?:
@scottalanmiller I'm also approaching this as someone who desperately wants to learn, not @JaredBusch 's position where he already has a vast amount of knowledge.
The only way to get 'vast amount of knowledge' is over a vast amount of time. Youre not going to get 20 years of xp and knowledge in 1 year, 2 years, or 5 years.
It is like investing in that way, a little bit over long period of time = millionaire and retiring before age 65.
a little knowledge every day for many years = being able to say 'FFS' to others. -
RE: What did you have for lunch or dinner today?

RE: Did HP Break the Law Vandalizing Your Printer?
HP hasnt made a good printer in over a decade. Their hp 4200 series desktop printers were the last thing they made worth buying. We had a dozen of those at my last job and they just printed, all day, every day, hundreds of thousands of pages without requiring maintenance except for toner.
Current job there /was/ a hp6830 color scanner/printer. Bought less than a year ago by someone else. Hasnt worked since i started here in January. Doesnt accept off-brand toner, always says hp toner is damaged. 100 pages of prints costs 100 dollars in toner. Takes 15 minutes to start up. Just a pile of diarrhea.
I say /was/ because I shattered it in the parking lot as soon as the new Brother 9340 cdw showed up last week. -
RE: Windows 7 Rollup
Recently i reinstalled Win7 on a pc at home before this rollup was released (back in April i think i did this). From first windows update check to finished with updates was something like 15 hours. 3 hours to check for updates, a few more hours 'downloading' them, then about 10 more hours installing them. I imagine it would be faster with wsus, but still horrible.

Possibly due to your contributions here, which are usually great.

RE: YouTube offers new streaming service
All i want from streaming services is for one of them to sign a contract with WEC and F1 to stream their races, as a paid add-on for like 5-10 bucks a month on top of the base. Then they could have all my streaming dollars for the rest of my life. Dont care if it is Amazon or Netflix or Youtube.

RE: Student Loan Forgiveness Rant
@zachary715 The education budget is a joke.
The way schoools are funded by property tax is a joke.
You want to fix this country.
Reduce the War department budget by 90%, increase the education department budget by 400%. -
RE: Gaming - What's everyone playing / hosting / looking to play

RE: Wikileaks Reveals CIA's Hacking Tools
I love the 'makes us less safe' bs from the CIA and FBI. Just total lies that most people believe because someone 'with authority' tells them so.
What is 'less safe' for everybody in this country except them is keeping these vulnerabilities to themselves so they can hack any American's tv or smartphone without consequence. But they dont do that, they told us so. -
RE: XenServer Local SR: Need another pair of eyes
Thats weird. pvdisplay/vgdisplay should give you a list of physical devices (pvdisplay) and vgdisplay should show you the logical volumes of your physical disks.
