That card is 7 years old. A 55 dollar gt 710 is better than that thing. Likely the new drivers for quadro on amd site dont even work with it, so Win10 is probably unsupported.

RE: Web app authenticate against customer AD?
@pete-s said in Web app authenticate against customer AD?:
But is it likely that an enterprise would expose ldap to the internet? Or is there something else inbetween?
You can do this, using ldaps and some certificates.
But likely you want to use SSO which is done over http/https. Many sites support SSO using SAML2.0 compliant implementations, like ADFS.
For example the MS CRM system has you setup an ADFS by default, you dont have to but is recommended, and i think required if you want remote users to use it without vpn.
This consists of the CRM, ADFS servers to provide access to people outside lan.
CRM homepage exposed to internet on 443, ADFS server on 443 exposed as well.Someone on outside network, they sign into CRM homepage with AD creds. The login request gets sent to public IP of your ADFS server over https, which then connects to you AD server on the LAN, it does its checks and responds with yay or nay to CRM.

RE: Error creating project, XSRF check failed on Jira
Welcome to Jira https. I did this awhile ago but not using a proxy.
Never understood their fascination with using ports other than 80 and 443.
On the jira server, what is
ss -atun
showing?I think the redirectPort=8443 option is causing this issue. This option is present in both connector options, and you arent using it.

New stuff in Win10 1809
Please post new stuff you find in 1809.
Obviously, the greatest thing added in this build is Explorer's dark theme.
Unfortunately it isnt All The Things, as option windows and Task Manager/Resource Monitor are still blindingly bright. There is also options for Quick Access now(this actually may have existed).
You can turn it off so that your Quick Access doesnt get filled with a bunch of shit you rarely use.
Just uncheck these boxes. edit: THIS WAS ALREADY HERE
Task Manager has more columns now, including Power Usage and Power Usage Trend. Some actual power draw numbers here would be better than MS arbitrary Low, Very Low, Moderate etc
Ill post more as i find/encounter them; feel free to add to this.

RE: New stuff in Win10 1809
Oh noes, theyve started their migration of putting the Control Panel Programs stuff in Settings app!
You have to do this from Apps and Features>Optional features>Add a feature> SNMP
Even using
Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "SNMP.Client~~~~0.0.1.0"
doesnt work at the moment. -
RE: New stuff in Win10 1809
There is Snip and Sketch, the replacement for Snipping Tool.
Not sure at all, but the only difference between these two i see is the toolbar, and the Sharing option.
I wish the Sharing part would recognize i have Nextcloud installed and give me the Share with Nextcloud option, but it only shows MS options here. -
US-CERT Alert (AA18-284A) Publicly Available Tools Seen in Cyber Incidents Worldwide
The USCERT has been very busy this week, sending out a couple dozen alerts.
https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/AA18-284A
This one is interesting, it details readily available and legit tools that are used in exploit attacks around the world, includes usage examples and mitigation. -
RE: Alternative TLDs
Also many of the new ones seem to only be used by scammers/spammers. Probably due to the fact there are so many of them now(tlds and spammers).
.top
.xyz
.win
All of these are newer tlds that legit people can use, but in reality i have only ever gotten spam or a bunch of login attempts from them.I still dont get why some of these new tld are managed by companies like Amazon or Gallo vineyards or this company called Donuts, which seems to have been setup specifically to gank management of as many of these tld as possible.

I lived in Orlando for a few years in my 20s. Nobody ever went swimming in the many lakes and ponds around the city, because 'gators. It is why everybody has swimming pools.

RE: What is considered 'cheap hw raid' vs 'good hw raid'
The card i have is LSI Sas 9260-4i
http://www.avagotech.com/products/server-storage/raid-controllers/megaraid-sas-9260-4i#specificationsSeems to check Scott's checkboxes. Although it is getting a bit old spec wise it seems, it has not been used to my knowledge.
This supermicro board would be something i might want for home use.

RE: Xenvbd issues in Windows Event Viewer
I checked the storage array before posting, there is nothing to indicate there are any errors there. I also checked Xenserver Tools install on the servers which were affected, and all of the server that went unresponsive had the same warnings in windows even viewer. the one server that does not have xentools, has no errors or warnings during that time. The version of xenvbd SCSI Adapter is 7.0.0.120 on more than one of the servers with the problem.
this is what im looking at on one server

RE: University or the Lotto?
Cynic in me says that the government doesnt care how much debt youre in or how educated you are, they still get their pound of you.
OTOH
I get extremely pissed when im at 7Eleven and someone spends ten minutes buying lotto tickets in front of me... If they just took that money every week and invested it, they wouldnt need lotto tickets. It is also very uncourteous to sit there and spend ten minutes picking out lotto tickets while people are behind you in line, imagining you burning in a fire. -
RE: Non-IT News Thread
19:1 in favor of staying. How did that even get up for a vote if support for exit was nonexistent?
edit: oh wait that was just an exit poll from google. perhaps the real vote is closer. -
RE: If you thought Skynet was just a story why is google building an AI kill switch
@DustinB3403 Cars are a privilege not a right, for one. You arent forced to not go anywhere, you can go whereever you choose, just not in a car in your hypothetical sitrep.

RE: Backup solutions for Xenserver
I just bought Unitrends for our Xenserver environment about 2 months ago. I have well over 95%(over 99% at the moment) backup success rate with 40 or so vm, using a combo of vm backups, agent backups(required it seems for some vm servers with sql dbs) and sql/exchange db backups. I may be able to help you with your problems. There are some things it wont do in Xenserver yet, like instant recovery for example, but it is working well for me so far.

RE: If you could get a Bachelor's Degree for under $8,000 in less than a year... would you?
A degree should only be relevant when you are in your early or mid 20s looking for your first real job. Im 37 next month and if someone wont hire me because I dont have a BS from 15 years ago, well they can do without my superior(most of the time)skills. Ill go work for myself or find someone that will hire me.
Will it even matter in 20 years when worldwide employment rate is 5-10% due to automation in all fields?
A bit off topic, but i much prefer the term Curriculum Vitae (life's work) to resume.

I've not really followed the issue to know which side has more benefit - Member or non-Member of the EU. So I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. I suppose time will tell...
Depends, it doesn't make sense to leave from an economic standpoint. It doesn't really make sense to leave from a social standpoint. One of the biggest arguments was that the EU was forcing the UK to open its borders to refugees and immigrants, leaving the EU allowed the UK to better protect itself from those forces.
"Protect itself" from helping those in need is the basic premise we hear in the EU.
No argument there... I agree with you but was trying to present the argument in an unbiased way.
I think protecting itself implies a danger rather than a dislike for helping those of non-European heritage. It's not about danger, it's about dislike. Which is why so many people are so upset about how the vote went from the outside. That the US is anti-Semitic is well known and the level of open racism in the US is what it is. The UK was supposed to be better but this seems to be stooping to the American level and that is very upsetting. This will make it so much easier for Americans to carry on with it to yet another level in their next elections too. It's a snowball effect, just like in the 1920s. Not that it will happen, but this is how it starts.
^^ This. Period. Thanks Scott.
are you saying that trump is the next Hitler?
If he wont, I will. Listen to the fucking horseshit that comes out of his mouth. 'Ban muslims' that is all you need to hear. Then go read some of Hitler's speeches. Then tell me their differences. The fact that half of Americans agree with him is beyond disgusting, and proof that at least half of Americans are still racist shitbags(I am American).

RE: Why Faxing is Less Secure Than Email
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fax
Fax machines are archaic; first one patented 150 years ago. 'New' ones from ATT designed in the mid 1920s. I try to avoid them, though i imagine they will never go away.
