@guyinpv You might need to check your Management Network dns settings on XS.

@rojoloco I thought those both mean the same thing.

RE: Issue installing Korora
My guess, as suggested by others, the 1MB partition is throwing the installer off, or it is actually an MBR setup and you cant install because youll have too many primary partitions afterwards.
The 1MB partition problem can be mitigated by moving the 1MB unallocated to the right of the sda2 partition. Move is a function in gparted. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Renewed cert on iis site, took 5 seconds. Set up auto renewal, see if that works in a couple months.

RE: JRNL_WRAP_ERROR (SYSVOL)
Did the hdd run out of space? Did you do what it says with the registry? Is the FRS service running?
Side note, all these problems are probably due to your dns configuration across the multiple domains you have set up.
dcdiag.exe /v /test:dns
anddcdiag.exe /v /test:replications
should return no errors. If you get your environment there, i suspect these problems will disappear forever. -

If this person next to my office clears their throat or coughs 1000 more times today i will murder them. Seriously, shut the fuck up or go home.

I dont want to use a mobile phone number
employeeatwork would be the name. Why isnt this possible? It was possible a couple months ago. -

@scottalanmiller I agree.
@gjacobse What type of vpn connection? Domain functional level? Does this only happen with people using wifi to connect to vpn? Are these workstations domain members?
Is there possibly replication issues, so that Account lockouts aren't being replicated to the dc youre checking in a timely manner?
Are there any errors on the file server or dc or workstation about bad username/pw?Generally we get them sign on while on the Domain network. After such the sign into the computer, then connect to the VPN with Static Creds.
AD applies to the computer then. These computers are Domain Joined, but at remote , random locations.
I'm not following. How do they sign on to the domain if the VPN isn't up?
Windows Cached Credentials.
I would think the problem lies here with old cached creds.
Control Panel >user Accounts> View your credentialsThere are probably old/expired creds here for connecting to the file server.
The script youre using to get by this gets info from the server and works because the info (username/pw the user needs to reenter to get mapped drives) is current. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@reid-cooper E17, still in beta 22 years later. Just kidding, though i do install the every once in a while.
Mostly it just Cinnamon or KDE Plasma for me, because Gnome is useless. -
Microsoft Rewards spam - what does this mean?
Seriously, wtf is this, when did i sign up for this stupid meta-game, why would i sign up for this? What is the purpose?
Perhaps the people working at MS have time to play a gd meta-shopping-meta-game while at meta-work... in fact that would explain lots of things, but honestly sending me multiple emails about this every week is a bit too much. I have no idea what this is or why i should care. Go fix WSUS and add support for your own bleeping plugins for Office 2016, stop sending me spam. -
RE: Junior Dev destroys PROD DB on first day.
Yes, whoever made those instructions with admin db user creds on them, that is who should be fired. Probably the CTO who fired the kid.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@scottalanmiller
What is the point of using powershell to do something? Cant do a GD thing without being in admin mode. Why even have a nonprivileged mode?
Everytime i try to use it, even for simple things, i have to close my current session and reopen as administrator. So annoying. Where is sudo equivalent? Ive seen these fake sudo functions people make for powershell. MS has had 15 years to do this correctly, and has done not a single bleeping thing about it. -
RE: Pure Accelerate conference - Worth going to?
@NerdyDad tinfoil isnt enough these days. You need carbon fiber hat painted with IR/microwave reflective paint, or nothing.

RE: Non-IT News Thread
@kelly Im talking about per month. if you goto starbucks you pay 5/day, at least. 25-30 days in a month, more than Prime membership for a year. Even if you pay only a dollar a day for coffee, that is still more than the cost of Prime membership.
Also, Dunkin Donuts and McDs dont count as coffee. -
RE: So you want to build a Security Program? Part 1 - Vulnerability Scanning
Running
rpm -qa | grep kernel
showed 5 or 6 kernels still installed. whoops.
package-cleanup --oldkernels --count=2
removed all but the current and next oldest one. -
