    • RE: Windows 10 volume licensing questions

I think this was/is a thing(hw for oem license) because retail box copy of Windows was a higher price than oem, and the difference was enough to do things like this. At least that is why we did this when i worked in pc repair/retail more than a decade ago. People didnt want to pay for a retail copy when the oem copy was exacty the same to them, but cost more.

@scottalanmiller People like this should have their US citizenship taken away, sent to Russia, as well as their assets taken and given to people that need.

    • RE: openvas test results

Yesterday afternoon I started a scan on the workstation network. Previously I was just using it for servers.
Later, in the evening, I logged in to my Webroot admin console and saw that about 25% of the endpoints were reporting an infection. I just about lost my mind. Luckily, I soon found out that openvas uses winexecsvc.exe to do its thing on Windows machines. Just FYI if anybody else is using this and quite green like me.

My gf read an article about movie sequels that were better than the original... one of the movies listed was Gremlins 2, so we watched that last night. Not sure if it is better than the original, we will watch that tonight to compare.

The new Jumanji movie outclasses the one from 90s. If youve not seen it is totally worth the rent.

@scottalanmiller @nadnerB @travisdh1 We ship lots of stuff. Occasionally in the past the shipping person here would get fake TNT Express emails notifications telling them to click this link for delivery notifications(just like the fake UPS/Fedex ones), etc. User didnt bite. I checked them out on mxtoolbox after that, no spf. Not surprising their computers werent updated either.

@i3 Regardless of the need for vlans, setting them up to have the same name/id on each piece of gear is a good idea. Very confusing for others after you, and probably you to visualize.

@rojoloco lol, I have ordered at least 20 in the last 2 years. I currently have 3 available and one is from my house. They just disappear. I am sure half of them are stuck in user pcs somewhere.

    • replacement for netstat is ss

ss is to be the replacement for netstat going forward. It isnt included in Centos7 by default.
useful netstat command is netstat -tulpn
the closest equivalent i can find with ss is
      ss -atunr
      ss -atun
adding p at the end of each of these commands will also give you the processes using them.
Still not the same as netstat -tulpn but close.

The training is $50/month, not bad. Also available at some community colleges. Would need to know the quality of it though. Also the salary they state seems way too high for desktop support, unless that is average in SF or somewhere else.

    • New projector for conference room

Ive done just a bit of research on this the last day.
Our old conference room projector is sad.
So far the Epson 9200 Pro seems to be the best projector available for less than $1000. In fact reviews state is better than most $2k projectors. Even though they seem to only be available as refurbs now.
Epson 9200 Pro Wireless - refurb
Should i be wary of factory refurb projectors?
Any suggestions for others (refurb or not) with comparable specs?

edit: Why are half of new projectors still not able to do higher than 1024x768 resolution?

Just bought ASUS 1080 Strix, for $550+10%tax. Still 200 dollars more than they should be but less than 2 months ago when they were about 800/each.
Couldnt take the failing fan bearing noise in my 290 anymore, and i should get 2x the performance and much less power usage for games and BOINC.

Couldnt agree more. I have a hybrid of this; there are cubes and offices. I have my own office, but no ceiling on the office, the walls stop at 7 ft the ceiling is 10ft. Result is i have not had a single second of quiet in 2.5 years. One of the paper pushers here coughs or clears her throat a couple thousand times a day every day.

    • Fall Creators Update new features, some bad some good

got the FCU on my work machine now.
Task Manager has been updated. Includes a GPU item now, showing its usage. Pretty neat. I like this a lot, easier to see than going into Nvidia/AMD programs to check.

I dont even know what a 3d Object is, nor why i would want it using up screen space 100% of the time. I also dont want Music Pics, Videos there either. Only way to remove these is through regedit. I would also guess they come back after every update or restart.

In the Watchguard, there is no User Source and Desination IP Address Binding option. There is a Sticky Connections option.
So i think in WG my best option is to force all connections to use CLink at the Policy level. Whats interesting about this setup you can do this for any firewall policy, regardless of your MultiWan settings. I havent enabled this, but it would look like below(this is a snip that i setup but didnt apply to WG):

      On season 2 of Voyager.

I think Voyager is underrated. I really enjoyed it. My ordering of Star Trek Shows is as follows:
1.) TOS (It started the whole thing and deserves to be #1)
      2.) STTNG
      3.) Voyager
4.) Enterprise (Such a shame it was canceled when it was, it was really getting good and had huge potential)
      5.) DS9

      Too soon to classify Discovery.

Nostalgia aside, TOS is pretty bad. I'm not surprised it got cancelled.

Yes, some of them are very very bad. I am watching them on Prime again. But TV in the 60s was all about hammy over acting. Watch any show from that era theyre all like that.
