If it was good gear or well known gear, it might have made sense. But D-Link stuff isn't worth saving.

      Preach it!

I know a lot of people like D-Link, but I had issues with multiple pieces of equipment from D-Link a long time ago and have refused to ever look at it since.

I know that is honestly bad on my part, as I should not rule something out forever, but with all the newer option, just no reason to ever go back to it.

@JaredBusch said in NIC teaming on Hyper-V:

Then you make you vSwitch. If you already have your vSwitch setup, make a team with the ports NOT on the vSwitch, move the vSwitch to the team and then add the final NIC to the team.

Not much to add here. SwitchIndependent mode is a big one on Hyper-V. Sure, Windows can easily use LACP and other means, but what if you want to use two or more uplink switches for redundancy? LACP can't handle this and there is just a handful of proprietary protocols that can. SwitchIndependent mode is doing exactly this by "load balancing" VMs and Host traffic between the available links and failover in case something goes south.

This way, like @JaredBusch said above, you can have LACP-like functionality (max single port speed for a single traffic source) over multiple inexpensive switches. In fact, the switch doesn't know anything about that type of teaming, you could even use unmanaged switches (but really, don't do that)

My hosts are running in this mode.

Were both of the Hosts domain joined?

Yes everything was domain joined. Honestly, they should always be domain joined.
You still need to allow constrained delegation though.
      https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/matthts/2012/06/10/configuring-kerberos-constrained-delegation-for-hyper-v-management/

The old host is Server 2008 R2 and the new host is running Server 2012 R2 if that makes a difference.

This makes a HUGE difference. Hyper-V was completely redone for Server 2012+

In this instance, I would export and import.

      not true

even ws2016 hyper-v has something from pre-2008 (and especially azure fork -out, for example erasure coding implementation, load balancing etc)

      thwr thanks for reference! 😉

Mike, yes, we can do that just fine! it's still recommended to do Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape however because direct iSCSI access for tape can be slow and backups may not fit into backup window. if it's a case VTL is your best friend 😉

Between what you said and some information from @coliver I learned that the Meraki is not behind the Edge, but in fact there is a switch between each of the routers and the ISP, so they both have direct access to the internet. Information from a tech on site lead me to believe otherwise, which is why the config didn't make sense.

I said this repeatedly when looking at the configurations.

Does anyone have any good experiences running QuickBooks on any platform?
      No

Sadly, I do. Business office uses it, and that's a battle I'm not fighting. Intuit looks even worse from the inside.

Basically, don't let anything touch the quickbooks files outside of quickbooks. When the program closes it will ask if they want to make a backup every 2-3 days. Just have them put the backup somewhere accessible, and put VNC or something on the computer that they normally run it from.

Can you manage drive based encryption from a network?

Something like Bitlocker you can manage from AD, but you're back to the management issue mentioned earlier.

      What management issue?

I know some places around us use this:
      http://wave.com/products/wave-self-encrypting-drive-management

That's what I use for my users' SEDs, but I manage it all at the machine level. (I think you need 20 machines or something for it to start making sense financially.)

Though it looks like from the home page that company is in turmoil. Not sure if what is happening is good or bad.

@JaredBusch said in Lotus Notes to Microsoft Access:

@Dashrender the problem with using an actual database like MySQL/MariaDB/SQL Express is that you then have to write an interface to even look at the data. For simple data, it is much easier to simply use the GUI that Access/Base provides to look at records.

That's mostly true. If the data is flat or flat-ish, though, standard free tools like myPhpAdmin will give you a GUI without any extra effort. It's not technically included in the base package, but is so standard that many people think of it that way. But definitely would not require writing your own interface if the data did not need to be reassembled in a relational way.

They look costly for stuff you could likely learn on Youtube....

There was a time when I would have agreed 100%. Now it seems the only way I would cram in 16 hours of learning would be to head off site some where with my phone forwarded to voicemail...

If you can make it to a class, you can schedule time away 😉 If you can't schedule time for YouTube, you'll not be able to get the value from the class.

From what I found, if you have licenses, you can activate them then hack your registry to get the older clients to work. I haven't been able to reproduce that in my lab.

The size comes to the fact that I have metal brackets on the back of the monitors that fit the Wyse P20. If I can find something that fits that, I can just swap them out and it makes for a quicker set up and tear down of the room.

I came across this thread, and it the Remix Mini might work. http://mangolassi.it/topic/7992/remix-mini-as-a-thin-client/3

I tested connecting to the 2012 R2 server from a tablet and that works.
