WSUS as a standalone server or inclusive with DC?
After reading Microsoft update KB3159398 thread I wonder if WSUS should be a run on its own server or included in other server/DC?
Right now we have WSUS running on a physical server, and we want to virtualized as well as upgrade all our servers from 2007/2008R2 to 2012R2. I have already virtualized DC (DNS,DHCP, ADDC) and wonder if I should include WSUS with it or create a separate VM for it.
Our current WSUS is running on Windows Server Enterprise (2007 SP2). Once we install new WSUS and configure GPO to point to this new WSUS...is that all?
Any thoughts or tips are greatly appreciated

RE: Building functioning OwnCloud within 24 hours... or less...help?
@travisdh1 said in Building functioning OwnCloud within 24 hours... or less...help?:
You configure the host file with
vi /etc/hosts
You probably need to update the configuration for the ethernet adapter
vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
At a minimum you'll need these lines set correctly in the ifcfg-eth0 file
TYPE=Ethernet
BOOTPROTO=static
DEVICE=eth0
IPADDR=ipaddress
NETMASK=subnet
GATEWAY=gatewayaddress
DNS1=firstdns
DNS2=seconddnssystemctl reload network
Hopefully that will get your network up and running. If not we're going to have to get a lot more information.
working now. Thanks!

not to disrupt things, but since we discussed ownCloud, OC has mostly collapsed and most of the team moved to NextCloud. I would consider any previous advice to use ownCloud to actually refer to NextCloud unless someone clarifies otherwise. NextCloud is fully open source, doesn't have different versions and is under heavy development. I would start with that.
The problem with NextCloud is that there is not a repository based solution for it.
You have to install from sources.
Oh that sucks. Still doable, but not nearly as nice.
Correct, and it is very low on my priority list for at least a month if not more.
OwnCloud still works perfectly fine.
I can't seem to import OwnClound repo. Anyidea why?
Running CentOS7 via HyperV
Try
curl -O- "https://download.owncloud.org/download/repositories/stable/CentOS_7/repodata/repomd.xml.key" | rpm --import -
If that doesn't work, just download the key using curl or wget and then do the rpm --import /keyfile
Can you give me an example about how to use curl or wget? yum -y wget https://.....key?
wget "https://download.owncloud.org/download/repositories/stable/CentOS_7/repodata/repomd.xml.key"
wget is a way to download files on the command line. Look for the learning Linux series of posts @scottalanmiller did, they're great!
Thanks Travis. I found my stupid problem. First I don't have my glasses on and I could not differentiate lower and capital -o and -O. Second, I didn't put CentOS_7 with capital C,O,S.
After realizing that rpm --inport works just fine.

I saw couple Linux series posts from SAM. I tried to follow, but because I do not use it on a daily basis it doesn't rub well on me.

Unfortunately both sites have users that need to use facebook to do their job. Aside from that, the scammers can just buy ads on any site.
The good side is now I have some fresh content to put in a presentation I'm doing on Tuesday about how not to get scammed.
One thing you may want to add to your presentation is Google's shorten link. I did mine couple of weeks ago regarding a fake google docs using goo.gl instead of docs.google.com. It looks identical to google docs except the link itself (revealed after hover the link).

Did you post questions about what was missing or confusing?
No. Just that Linux isn't within my proximity during day job. Learning Linux becomes more of a hobby for me. What was missing? Don't think so. Confusing? A bit due to lack of first hand experience. Like learning German in a country that does not speak German... I guess.

RE: Hyper-V - 3 VM migrations to new host
Assuming both server have similar storage space, and only 2 nodes we are talking about. Take a look at Starwind's Virtual SAN. They can provide free license for 2 nodes (you have to ask for it). Anatoly Vilchinsky is a real champ. He hooked me up with the license. You should be able to find tutorial on how to set it up.
This will required downtime as it require restarts during installation and setting it up. It's a set and forget kind of deal. Crossover cable between the server highly recommended.

I have 3 VMs to move from one Hyper V host to a new Hyper V host. Has anyone had much luck with live migrations, or should I go straight to export/import?
I thought live migration only works on Failover Cluster environment. If it is not on a SAN or standalone storage, live migration may not work. I ran into issue with Live Migration due to delegation permission. Took me a while to find the cause and fixed it (don't remember what I changed but it was minor change).
