@DustinB3403 I meant to reply to SAM, as I don't think he liked the fact it was 75 pages.

It doesn't have to be that many pages, you can filter out what you want, don't want.

RE: Free Docker eBook
@aaronstuder I didn't post the book itself due to the T&C's. Seems that it is against them.

I suppose USB flash drives could be OK for Off-site. I'd get 5, one for each business day of the week. Then at work (hopefully) you would only loose one day if the current drive failed.
I'm doing grandfather - father - son backups, which is why the cost of them matter. I'll need like 15 just to get started.
@travisdh1 What software are you using?
@Breffni-Potter Site to site is out because that's "online" as far as they are concerned...
That's a tape mentality - do you need to maintain it? With the speed of USB 3 sticks, just do a full backup to a stick every day/night.
I never thought I would do this, but someone has to stand up for the tapes
Tape is cryptolocker proof.
Tape is "oops I brushed past the server and broke the USB stick off" proof
Tape media is really affordable per GB
Tape is designed to work with offsite storage for DR
... other tape goodness that someone else will remind me of I'm sureTapes aren't drop proof like a USB drive though.

One 'option' is to use OLD technology. But of course what happens when the unit fails? The old Linksys W54 series Routers and APs would work fine.
Reversing that mentality, what happens if it doesn't fail. For all you know, it could last another 10 years. I say if you have the equipment, take a shot at it. You really have nothing to lose over what you have in place at this point.
-
RE: Portable Mesh Network Project
Cost is obviously your biggest issue here. What kind of budget are you working with for the project?
-
RE: Portable Mesh Network Project
@gjacobse I've never done a project like this, but I don't see why the open-mesh solution wouldn't work. They have outdoor enclosures for their products, which should be enough to shield out mother nature, I'd assume.

Awesome, so I can't even approach the OP publicly to let them know that other conversations are going on.
David can eat a bag of *****
SW can't allow people to post links that steal their conversations to other forums.. they need to keep everyone there.
This always has to be done via PM. No matter what forum you are talking about they don't want things to leave the community.
I once had a post removed from Experts Exchange due to posting an answer and sourcing another forum, from where I found the resolution. They can do this, as it is in there Terms of Use of using the site.

I agree, but they didn't like it.
Doesn't speak for EE. I've always posted links to sources over at SW for example.
I found the message I was sent.
"Links to competing sites: A "competing site" is one that exists solely as a Q&A forum
Exactly. Think StackOverflow as a perfect example of a competitor. Something like Microsoft's forums; however, would be fine as they are not really a competitor. Basically just use common sense. No one is going to berate you for posting a genuinely useful link, but do bear in mind that EE doesn't want to loose business by directing all its clients to competitor sites -

@DustinB3403 I can't say I disagree, it was a bad topic as a whole, touchy subject.

RE: Is it bashing to ask what other were thinking
@DustinB3403 Honestly, it was rude and unfriendly. I see no issues with that deletion.

RE: Is it bashing to ask what other were thinking
The post I made the comment on, you called the guy dense and I took it as you demeaning the guy for making a mistake. I'll have to find the other posts to make you aware, maybe they aren't meant to be taken the way I'm taking them. I'm just letting you know how I see it as a newcomer to this community. I would say the same if it were coming from any other community.

RE: ESXi Evaluation Period
@DustinB3403 I haven't read the OP, nor know the OP, but I think a lot of times people get thrown into these roles and get told they need X, when in reality they need Y. The issue with this is they honestly have no idea what they need and have don't even think about licensing, especially when they see "FREE".
