      Wow. Just refreshed the page.

Yeah, advice fail right there 😞 I mean I get his point, but I don't agree. It's "you don't know how to do your job to a minimum level of competence, so let's just gloss over that and give bad advice since it's too hard to treat you like a professional." If I gave that same advice people would be all over me for being condescending and thinking that the OP was too "dumb" to do his job. But other people treat him like a child and it's considered normal.

You should leave spiceworks' community for a week. Don't log in there, do do anything relating to it, and see what happens.

I dont know how to do that.

Alter your DNS to point community.spiceworks.com to 127.0.0.1.

Do they alias certain commands in linux because its easier than actually changing them?

type ls shows that ls is actually 'ls --color=tty' as an example

You can save a config file (e.g. .tcshrc) to a network location and then import that to your home directory whenever you log in to a new location if you want to have the same aliases everywhere.

@wirestyle22 You should try CitiKitty. No more litter.

Really hard to train an adult cat to do that. A young cat definitely.

According to my mom, my dad did this with his cat in the 60's, though he didn't use anything so fancy as what was linked. I guess it was just positive reinforcement and patience (something never seen from my perspective where he was involved).

Nope. An IT General of Specialists.

Man, I hate it when our staff in Hyderabad feels the need to call me. They can write english quite well, but speaking it tends to give them (and me) some trouble. Not sure why a simple email wouldn't suffice.

I'm sure you can do the needful!

Why is ls -F the classify option? Usually these make sense like -l being long format

I honestly never use -F. Where it's not already set at a system level alias, I will change ls to `ls --color=auto'. Much easier to read in general I think.

Besides the --color=auto, -a, -l, and -h are really the few operators I tend to use with ls.

I have gotten so used to ll that it pisses me off when I have to type out ls -alF.

I need the version that doesn't require a hypervisor. We have 2 node with das and would love to eliminate the windows layer (and any other layers as much as possible).

      You up mighty late tonight!

      No kidding.

Might as well go ahead and start the coffee pot.

Yeah, I don't know how to do that. The little Ukrainian secretary has left 😞 She is the keeper of the coffee knowledge.

Some nice ideas there. You need to add IoT lighting so that you can make the whole yard change colours.

Got to start on the big ideas before you can begin to work on the details.

Be sure to check for permitting in your area.

    • RE: What's the current "standard" for a media server setup these days?

I have an old 2950 in service running a 2008 server for my file access (primary file storage & print server) with a couple other VMs on the host. One of those other hosts is the Ubuntu Server 14.04 (if I recall correctly) with plex on there, using smb to mount all of my movies and other media. All of my media is on DAS, internal through the perc. As I stated above, I use a roku3 to watch everything. The only problems I have is that the 2950 is underpowered and if a tv show or movie isn't encoded in a ready-to-play format, then I need to prepare to watch that show by telling plex to transcode it for watching in advance. I'm planning to upgrade to a 510 or something as soon as I have a couple grand just doing nothing. Mostly, I just want more storage.

I've never set up a Plex server to be played directly through HDMI but I know people do it.

I use my Plex through a roku, but I know you can do it through raspberry pi, too.

Power outage this morning in our data center. The electrical contractor did a thing that tripped a circuit breaker, and we're still recovering. ZFS (freenas) is the only problem right now.
