I didnt see anyone talk about preventing Crypto virus from encrypting files. We used AppLocker and it resolved the issue for us, if you are not using an enterprise OS then you can use Software Restriction Plicies.

Detaching your backups is how you protect your backups. Sure you could add things like AppLocker, but if you have properly separated systems then you have nothing to worry about.

@DustinB3403 said in Support - when can a vendor/support provider give up?:

When the problem is related to issues not pertaining to the item that they are supporting.

If your SQL database is what is supported, but your server goes down. Is it their job to bring the server up for you?

So you mean when you are putting in a ticket with the wrong company for the wrong support

No lets say you bought support for just the SQL server (cause maybe NTG offered this). You manage and run the server locally, but you don't want NTG to touch the server outside of SQL.

Their sole job would be to ensure that SQL is operating as best it can.

But it is not their job to troubleshoot the hardware, or guest environment in any way. That is on you.

    • XenServer HealthCheck - Additional functionality added to XO

      Full topic here

To summarize (I've seen this occur personally) if you're creating snapshots or your CR replication is too frequent, XO will now pause your backup operation and throw an error about your SR (being to slow to keep up), which previously would ruin your backup chain.

Here is the original issue ticket I created.

    • If a business were all linux would they use Office 365

Just a thought that popped into my head, was if a business from servers to laptops was running RHEL or CentOS for everything, would they opt to use Office365 for email collaboration and Office capabilities?

I know @scottalanmiller knows of businesses that are purely linux in every aspect. I'm just posting to post really, and this was something that came up as a discussion worth considering.

I guess the question is why aren't they speaking with the kids mother (or primary care taker and residence operator) rather than you?

It seems like an attempt to milk you for your money for your ex. . . . (wooh he just bought this. . . Take him to court to get more money)

      (cynical me)

Because my ex wasnt answering her phone. She said it was my thing since i have weekdays off most times. But after today they have to go through her for all of that or she needs to add me as primary care giver on the account

So she doesn't do what is required and they don't care, but if you don't do what isn't required, they take action? Seriously, this is when lawyers step in. I'd be all over them for discrimination in a flash. They have legal responsibilities that they are shirking and are taking advantage of their position to basically threaten you.

I was the only parent they saw at the time that week. She doesnt do what is required and they tell me about it basically. yeah, its great. I get to deal with all of the adult stuff basically because she wont.

So then document all of it, bring it to your lawyer and fight the custody battle. If you are the responsible adult, you should have the kid, and get paid child support etc.

Being as big as a corporation as Alphabet is, I'm sure they have a hire/fire at will policy mixed in. Also the employee broke several company policies regarding the material he wrote.

Which is grounds for termination (according to the article).

Couldn't agree more. I don't understand why you would release that memo to begin with....

It's as if he was testing the waters to see what would happen. Or he had the plan to do this, get fired over it and sue as retaliation because he doesn't want to work any more.

In either case it's purely his doing, regardless of free speech or openness or whatever other policy the business has.

They didn't fire him because of what he wrote, they fired him because he broke company policy.
