Can you even arrest someone who gets that stuff from the police? Ignorance is no excuse under the law. That works both ways. They can't prove that people didn't know that it was government publications.

Which it is as soon as the material is seized.

Nothing different with child pornography than cocaine! Both are illegal.

@momurda Seriously, I helped a kid in Texas via TeamViewer to be able to mount a drive inside of ESXi.

He had no clue, but had hundreds of VM's he was "in charge of".

I could've screwed him over royally if I wasn't such a nice guy.

Which if you looked at it like this, the government began to sell child porn.

Which is synonymous with "the government sold illicit drugs"

I don't edit while driving and honestly I missed the word that time

      No problem 🙂 darn typos!

Watch for weird sentence structure from Jared, if you see a weird sentence it almost always means it was a speech to text translator getting words wrong.

Or as in this case if I'm turning around and insulting you for no apparent reason it was probably an accident unless your name is @DustinB3403 and you're talking about XS

Wait, what happened, how am I dragged into this?

@dafyre Shouldn't be painful at all. Export your VM's, install the new hypervisor and import.

Just check which format KVM supports.

The essential experiences have to be based around someone coming from windows or mac to Linux.

While the desktop experience it's self is certainly a part of that, the system overall must be intuitive.

@Shuey said in Options for deploying standardized image to desktop & laptops?:

      I like this, lol: (https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=New_Home_Page#Hardware)
      Requirements
      Hardware
FOG is best implemented on a dedicated server, any spare machine you have. We recommend that you have sufficient hard drive space as each image you make is usually between 5 and 10 GB and it's best to have a gigabit NIC with as much processor and RAM you can throw at it.

Wow, that's SO helpful of them to tell me exactly how much CPU, RAM and HD resources to throw at my server, lol!

You can disregard the dedicated hardware, I ran this at my last place as a VM on XenServer 6.5. I did have a dedicated NIC for a separate DHCP server that was running within the VM though.

This way I only had a single cable coming out of this NIC to my office, that had a 8 port switch so I could PXE boot, and image up to 7 computers at once.

I was getting NL-Gbe performance while deploying an image to my hardware.

@BBigford said in "You don't just restore a server":

You get hit, you restore. Server crashes, you restore. That's why we have backups...

More importantly waiting to restore can actually cause harm. Whoever is wanting to dig thru the server for logs and clean it up must be paid for overtime.

    • SaltStack Use Cases

There are constantly conversations going on about SaltStack, many of which are interesting to say the least. But something I'm simply not understanding are what use cases everyone is using saltstack for?

As Scott explained it to me in PM the other day is that it's Godmode or Universal GPO (that actually works).

Does this mean I can use it to manage all of my client systems, Mac, Windows and Linux? Does it support upgrading software, installing new software, wiping systems etc?

I know these are some basic questions, but the true underlying question I have is what use cases, are you all using SaltStack for?

@DustinB3403 This is learning to configure and testing for me / seeing if this can be a good solution for the company for which I work.

The answer is of course, yes it would be a great solution for your company. The trouble comes in with getting the company to decide what features they require.
