I was wrong, it looks like you can fully automatically fail over to the slave and set it as the new master w/ the latest MySQL set up, so that makes the decision a bit easier.

As far as Raid 5 instead of 0, I'd thought that the performance of Raid 5 was absolutely terrible and that almost no one used it anymore, is that a wrong memory?

No one uses RAID5 with spinning rust.

RAID5 is perfectly acceptable with SSDs

      What the hell?!

Should I turn off my servers before Hurricane Irma arrives, expecting 4-5 days without power!

Um.. yeah no keep em plugged in and chugging along.. . .

I liked the one response of one dude takes the server and goes X direction and the other dude takes the NAS and goes Y direction. Wouldn't be a terrible thing to do assuming moving it is feasible, and way its being transported won't destroy the equipment. I wonder if they'd take their network equipment as well.

That doesn't make sense, because then if something does happen that poor employee is fucked by management for "not protecting the equipment" rather than saving his/his families lives.

Have proper offsite backups and f*** the hardware. That is what insurance plans are for.

You're operating on the following assumptions. 😛

      1. You assume there are proper offsite backups.
      2. You assume there is insurance.

No I only assume that people do the correct thing and not give a f*** about physical hardware. Planning for disasters such as this is the IT and businesses responsibility when they live/work in these areas.

    • Its to early to do math - SIP cost calculations - confirmation needed

If I use on average 600 minutes a month of PSTN phone service and my rate was $0.009/minute I'd be looking at spending a total of $64.80 in a year.

      (600 * 0.009)*12 = $64.80

Right, I'm not insane am I, I can do math right?

Um great.... how about you give me more than a few grains of sand to try and figure this out with. . .

Simply mount the drive to a different computer and copy their user profile.

If you were migrating domains I'd say use forensit

I"m not removing computers. I am removing AD.

Forensit might still work for this...

    • RE: security cameras using coax?

I had to deal with this almost 8 years ago, reusing coax and the 2.1 Megapixels here are going to provide the worst possible picture of whatever your customer is trying to capture.

In my case, we were watching our scrap metal bins (lots of money here) and the business opt'd to go cheap, use the original camera and cables.

Well a bin went missing, almost $2000 in scrap and all they could tell was the color of the persons shirt. .

Which the company provided protective shirts so they couldn't figure out who stole the scrap.

If that isn't evidence enough to upgrade, I'm not sure what is.

For anyone interested this feature was added to the master branch a few days ago, I have it enabled and it works as intended.

We had to generate a report of assets and serial numbers and found a handful of them, which we just cleaned up.

      @dafyre said in Testing oVirt...:

Can we use the oVirt system to manage an existing KVM server?
( I want to try oVirt, but really don't want to wipe out the system I currently have set up )

I tried setting up oVirt a few versions ago and from what I could find, it's almost expected you have a minimum of 3 physical hosts for it.

So no, you won't be able to manage a standalone KVM server since everything has to get built to be managed by the oVirt Engine.

@black3dynamite If we dont turn it off, It wont communicate with the Back office PC and problems with Credit Card processing and general communication between front house and back office.

Then you need to put some rules into the Windows firewall to allow the communication through.

If you need, put wireshark in between these systems and see what ports are being used.

    • RE: HyperV Server - Raid Best Practices

OBR10 would be the better option here. Splitting arrays has never been a great option, and setting up RAID1 for an SSD array so the hypervisor can boot more quickly is ridiculous.

The IOPS performance is needed where the VM's are stored. Not where the Hypervisor is run from.

      Option 2.
