    • 5Nine Free Version

So finally got a clear answer on this with 5Nine. The 5Nine Manager free was removed for a while but it is back now. You have a 14 day trial and then it goes back to the free version. These are some features you can use with the free version:

      • 1 node support.
      • Up to 6 VMs managmeent
      • Console Access
      • GUI
      • Summary of Host and VMs
      • Create, Edit and Remove VMs

If you want to have the paid version you will be paying per 2 CPU on each Hypervisor regardless if you have one or two CPUs.

If you need to purchase the Enterprise edition is based on 16 cores packs regardless of what servers CPU cores you have.

      Hope this help anyone there.

    • Sonicwall Management Vulnerability

SonicWall physical firewall appliances running certain versions of SonicOS contain vulnerabilities in code utilized for remote management. At this time, there is no indication that the discovered vulnerabilities are being exploited in the wild, however:

SonicWall STRONGLY advises to apply the SonicOS patch immediately.

IF you cannot update immediately, as a mitigation please restrict SonicWall management access (HTTPS/HTTP/SSH) to trusted sources and/or disable management access from untrusted Internet sources, then apply the SonicOS patch as soon as possible.

Note: SonicWall will communicate any future updates via this Security Advisory and SonicWall PSIRT Advisory SNWLID-2019-0009.

Want to move a fair amount of desktops from HDDs to SSDs, everything Windows.

Please note: I can't reinstall the hosts at this point because there is no software deployment or base image available and I don't have the time to build something myself at the moment. We use a lot of very specific scientific and engineering tools, which are not covered by any out of the box solution.

What's everyone's favorite disk imaging / cloning tool? A plus would be a tool which is able to image to a smaller sized partition (e.g. 1TB disk that only uses 150GB, imaged to a 250GB SSD.

I have been using Clonezilla for years but when it comes to big to smaller Drives I have been using Veeam Agent to backup fully the machine and restore to a new hard drive.

    • KnowBe4 Second Chance with Outlook 2010

I wanted to share what I have implemented on a Microsoft Windows Environment with KnowBe4 Second Chance. The application works well with Outlook 2013 and up but with Windows 10 and Outlook 2010 the application does not open any links when prompted. So after digging with many changes, I created the following GPO to be able to push it to all our Windows 10 machines.

@animal said in Soft Skills for the IT Pro:

There's been some really good conversations here (thank you all) and what I think could be really interesting is this... Maybe IT people need some soft skills, but maybe there's a need to show the users we support why we appear like we don't have soft skills at times. Maybe, just maybe, it appears that we're lacking in soft skills when really it's the users that are being condescending.

To that point I wonder if it's worth it to create some videos around user interaction with IT. Like a couple of scenarios from both points of view. One where it looks like the IT pro is talking down to the user, and the other where the IT pro is really just trying to help. Hmmmm

It is always a struggle because no one wants to be proven wrong, unfortunately with computer problems anyone using a computer will see it as their fault when something happens and then it becomes a blame game. The user doesn't want to be blamed, the IT person does not want to get blamed. You fix the issue and show how you fixed it and it might come across as condescending or superior. However that is the way things appear to the other end.

It is like me getting upset at things by the mere fact of words, sometimes I have gotten upset at @scottalanmiller or @JaredBusch by words said that are just that. It might look like an attack but in reality is just a statement and I need to work better at that.

You can name them whatever you want. I just personally like this format.

Well, yeah but the configuration looks for all *.conf files which failed on loading the site at first.

Right, you can name it wtf.conf if you want is what I mean.I just personally like the fqdn.conf structure, so that is how I wrote the guide.

Trying to get an update on a single machine KB4088776 has been problematic for too long. I went the route of manually downloading and it still fails. I shutdown the WU service, renamed the softwaredistribution file, purged Windows update and still nothing gets this update installed. Machine currently sits at 16299.192 which up until today was actually at 16299.125. So I made progress but now can't get .309's update to go.

Any thoughts? BTW, HP Probook 650 G1. BIOS is up to date and all other drivers are as well.

At this point I would do a refresh of WIndows 10 and then reinstall all the apps. Backup first.
