@brandon220 I think Proxmox is a great front end for KVM. From what I see in the updates the other day, they are improving their backup server as well. The only type 1 hypervisor I don't like or not a fan of is Hyper-V. I can use it but it needs some tweaks if you don't have it joined to a domain. But there are some good backup products for it. EXI is good but see no point on me paying for it and no point in using the free version as the API's for VM backups are disabled.

@brandon220 To be fair the worlds your oyster, Hypervisor is just a Hypervisor. Use whatever you are comfortable with. I personally use Proxmox, but I also like XCP-NG.

I wonder how much they will get the latency down to. I know they are advertising 50-100Mb/s and 20-40ms latency on their Beta program now.

Nebraska - I have 100/20 for $80 + $50 for unlimited downloads, I average 1.8 TB, the extra .8 would cost me $80 if I paid for it per 100 Gig
I'm paying £25 (34$) for 80/40 line, of which I'm only able to sync at 50/10 as I'm roughly half a mile away from the cabinet.
The only annoying thing is I'm getting a drop every day which the isp does not know why, it's normally only once a day, so my uptime hasn't been passed 1 day since I moved to this property a few months ago. Tests have been completed on the line which come back fine. My previous address would have an uptime of weeks.

Just out of interest what are most of america's different states and Canada using in regards to internet connections? Over here in the UK we are mostly FTC now, which is copper from the property to the street cabinet then fibre to the exchange. We are still limited by distance to the cabinet in regards to what speeds we get. We also still have ADSL available, but most are not using that these days. My speed for example is now 56/10. At my old address I was right next to the cabinet and would get 70/20. Just curious if you are mostly FTTP over there.
NB Canada here. FTTH, all the way to my ERX. 100/100 for $80/mth right now but I can go up to 1.5G/940M... means that I'd have to go back to the ISP's CPE though since the ERX's WAN port is only 1G
100/100 is a good speed though, do you reckon you will upgrade the line to 1gb?

RE: Proxmox in production questions
I should imagine/hope if there was a serious breach that needed an update, they would push this to the non enterprise repo as well.

RE: Miscellaneous Tech News
@black3dynamite and will be able to install MSSQL. Looks like an enterprise path they are going down. Awesome for us, especially after the shit news of RHEL/Centos shitting on everyone. Hopefully canonical will keep to their releases and push more people from centos over to them, I have had no issues and mostly run ubuntu server for most of my servers.

Intresting:
Active Directory: Bridging the gap between system administrators and Linux developersUbuntu machines can join an Active Directory (AD) domain at installation for central configuration. AD administrators can now manage Ubuntu workstations, which simplifies compliance with company policies.
Ubuntu 21.04 adds the ability to configure system settings from an AD domain controller. Using a Group Policy Client, system administrators can specify security policies on all connected clients, such as password policies and user access control, and Desktop environment settings, such as login screen, background and favourite apps.

Raspberry Pi-based KVM over IP
A very simple and fully functional Raspberry Pi-based KVM over IP that you can make with your own hands without any soldering!
This device helps to manage servers or workstations remotely, regardless of the health of the operating system or whether one is installed. You can fix any problem, configure the BIOS, and even reinstall the OS using the virtual CD-ROM or Flash Drive.
It only costs between $30 and $100 depending on the features desired. Even the most expensive configuration will be cheaper than a $500 commercial IP-KVM

RE: Huge Mistake
Big mistake I made was over 15 years ago. Was taking out a mechanical hard drive from my computer to put into an external caddy. The plastic wasn't clipped in correctly and the hard drive slid outside the other end of the caddy and hitting the hard floor with some force....hard drive was dead after this....after this always been weary holding a hard drive lol..
