How tailscale helped meposted in IT Discussion
I'm currently staying away a lot from my home address. I have a Dell server with proxmox hypervisor installed and various vms hosting nextcloud and casa os.
I have two ports open 80,443. For nginx proxy traffic for subdomains that allow access to nextcloud. I wanted to access the proxmox gui and my home lan. This is where tailscale has been brilliant.
I've installed tailscale on my server and enabled subnet routing. I now use a mobile and laptop to connect to my internal lan without having to open any ports. Tail scale is a mesh vpn which uses the wireguard protocol.
I really recommend this solution and it works great and documentation is easy step by step.

@StuartJordan - You were correct as I will be using the router as my main router instead of a traditional COTS router:
https://mangolassi.it/post/549470My apologies that this wasn't clear in the OP.
I'm currently assembling a parts list for a build or two.
Always fun building it yourself.
