RE: Smartphone doldrums
I think we've hit the ceiling in terms of smartphone "innovation". Eventually all hardware catches up, and with software, it just comes down to UI at the end.
I loved the freedom of Android, but there became a point where it was too free (if that makes sense?) and I was spending more time trying to get my phone to be set up exactly the way I wanted it rather than using it.
As a current Apple user, my only gripe is setting default apps--but a long press usually brings up more options at this point so I can choose Google Maps rather than Apple.

Is it possible to share some of the presentations from MC2016? And hope people like us who couldn't attend this year, get to see some videos soon!
Everything was recorded.
Give them some time to to post production.
EVERYTHING was recorded. Even midnight trips into sleeping people's rooms.
Is Sam still alive?
She is! She wasn't very enthusiastic about waking up at 4:30 though.

@RojoLoco Never! I have several friends, including my BF that are of Indian decent ir directly from India and they run in to racism all the time. I fight the fight with them to educate on and eradicate the ignorance behind racism.
Sadly, NE Ohio is still a hotbed of racism. Especially the area my wife lived in before we got married. It's even prevalent in the Amish population.
Some of the conversations with people make my head spin. Mostly not fit to share online for more than the obvious reasons
Upstate NY or central PA are the same way. Wonder if there is a correlation that can be made between that and types of jobs available?
Ahhh, central PA aka Pennsyl-tucky.

sadly, conference cookies are rarely worth eating.
Quite true... I had some of the most awesome cookies... sorry... they were all mine!
The lunch cookies weren't that bad.
Were covered with some sticky goo. The cookies themselves were ok I guess. but i had to go wash my hands after picking one up.
These are cookies, not that crazy french dessert that is a stack of balls covered in spun sugar.
There was something on the cookies too. it was nasty.
No more sticky cookies!

RE: Data centers and retrofitting
@Dashrender said in Data centers and retrofitting:
How do you propose getting a Level 3 or 4 DC from a retrofit?
Well, at least from a power redundancy standpoint, I'd assume most large malls or factories are already outfitted with backup systems, so it'd be easy to utilize or upgrade the existing stuff they got there. Physical security might be a different story.

Thanks goodness there aren't any Windows Phone users left out there to be affected by this
Haha! I watched that episode the other day!
Not to devolve this discussion into a Simpsons chat, but I really need to make use of this FXX Simsons World in my downtime. I'm always looking for something light as background noise when I'm doing other work.

@ChrisL y'all should bring a Bluetooth speaker or something so the Jenga competition can have a soundtrack.
So basically something that will be able to withstand having "The Final Countdown" blasting out of it for 8+ hours?

To retrofit the security on a building like a mall, all you'd have to really do is brick off the entrances.
To protect against zombie hordes, obviously.

Sorry, but to expand on my last point--I'm more than willing to discuss shows I've already watched, especially if someone has just finished it. I like hearing about their flash reactions and how they're processing the story and compare it to what I think.
What I'm trying to say is: I got a really good theory that Mike's dad from Stranger Things is up to something nefarious and I want to discuss it.
I watched 1.5 episodes of that show and had to get out... bored me to near death.
It does start slow, I'll give you that, but it seriously ramps up once things start falling into place. I'd say give it to at least the 4th or 5th episode. For me, it hit that "what if this was me and my friends" nostalgia spot so maybe I'm biased.

ML is working just fine for me everything else however is not. When 90% of what you do is social media stuff and when that is all broken...... I get to read a book!
It's been a pretty easy day

@scottalanmiller we are looking at off loading our document management system. I work at a law firm and we create 3000 to 5000 documents a day easy. Talking to one vendor that is cloud based and they quoted us that we need 3 Mbps connection for 250 people.
I think my parents still have their old dial-up modem laying around if you'd wanna use that instead
