@pete-s We are going to change the PW on the AP so no clients can connect. It could be the AP itself. Then we gradually bring clients back on to see which one is the problem.

Got it!
I gave the client a link to this thread and I think he's going to scrap the server and look for something from Xbyte.

Interesting question. Why would you not want to run it as a domain?
The question should be the opposite.
If there isn't a business need for a domain, why would you want to run it as a domain?

Shut the system down pull the failed drive and the hot spare turn it back on. You should be up and running on a degraded RAID array
We are terrified to turn the system off at this point.
I am guessing no backups? Is the system available at all?
System is currently available. In theory there are backups, but no capacity to test them and they are across the country. This isn't a managed customer, so we have no documentation, no visibility, no access. We just have to trust that they say that there are backups. But they confused their UPS with their NAS calling both their "backup" so we have literally no clue what they do and do not have.
I'd burn a couple of billable hours at least doing some investigation into their things using Mesh Commander. That way you have a better idea of where they are on the we're screwed o'meter.
That'd be great. But their CIO doesn't like us doing anything.
It's even worse than that. CIO wants us to make the current situation work for 2-3 more years without spending any money.
CIO is completely out of touch with reality, Intentionally ignoring our advice and is allowing a meltdown to happen.

Suggestion for a call recorder for Android phone
I have tried several call recording apps on my Android. So far the volume on the remote end is very low making the recording almost unusable.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent call recorder for Android?
(Yes, it's legal to record calls in my state)

Chkdisk breaks Windows
Microsoft has acknowledged the Windows 10 bug that is causing PCs to crash when running the Check Disk tool, and it has rushed out a fix, underlining just how serious this problem is. In its list of known issues for Windows 10 updates KB4592438 and KB4586853, the company explains how users can fix their PC if they fail to start up after crashing:
The device should automatically start up into the Recovery Console after failing to start up a few times.
Select Advanced options.
Select Command Prompt from the list of actions.
Once Command Prompt opens, type: chkdsk /f
Allow chkdsk to complete the scan, this can take a little while. Once it has completed, type: exit
The device should now start up as expected. If it restarts into Recovery Console, select Exit and continue to Windows 10.
This should allow your PC to start normally. The company is also rolling out a fix for the error, which should reach users of Windows 10 in the next 24 hours, and as it's an automatic update, you won't need to do anything to apply the fix.https://www.techradar.com/news/new-windows-10-bug-appears-to-break-one-of-its-most-important-tools

RE: Can you run a Windows desktop OS as a server to run AVImark Veterinary Software?
@Obsolesce I know right?
People want to believe what gives them the best outcome regardless of the logic. It's literally one of the easiest contracts to understand, yet people WANT to interpret it in a way that benefits them because it saves them money.
The minute you go beyond the very basic services offered in device connections, you MUST use a server OS.

Trying to do 3 DR's at once.
1 - Client that I told many times to buy a UPS for their server that has frequent power outages. They had good intentions but never got around to doing it. (They have one now!)
2 - New client that thought they could do it on their own that shared out every drive on the server, every drive on each workstation and got hit by a crypto virus that encrypted virtually every file on every computer (inc Server) that they own
3 - Client that 'moved' his server all by himself (without turning anything off first) - Still trying to figure out this one.Oh, and keep up with my normal customer calls/tickets.
Wow, just wow. Honestly #2 had me literally laughing (sry you are dealing with all of this).
Yeah, I had to be nice and tell him that doing that is 'generally not best practice'. Didn't want to add insult to injury. I think he got the point.
Sucks right now, but if everyone knew how to do I.T. I'd have to find a different job!
LOL you are a better person than I am. And you are right, that is job security for you :).
I just wish all the 'job security' didn't come at once!

UPS Replacement
How often should you replace your UPS units (the unit itself not the batteries)? Is there a 'best practice'?

Reading this email from a user...
"So the clinic bought two laptops from the pawn shop and they definitley have a virus or something. The history on one of them is pretty amusing but basically I need to get them scanned and the virus protection put on them. They can have (Redacted) put on them but (Redacted) is not necessary. The computer I have ready is called Laptop-97hj0gjg. Do I need to install anything on the computer for you to log onto it?"
SMH...

Windows Server 2016 NIC Teaming - No internet
I have a server 2016 machine that when I enable NIC teaming (Switch independent) works just fine until I set a static IP on it.
Then it shows the static IP but also assigns it an APIPA address as well for some reason. That is causing issues (obviously) with network connectivity.
In the NIC Teaming area it shows both adapters connected. Both NIC's are not shared with any management adapters (Lights out, DRAC, etc.).
