I've had a Windows 10 instance with insane resources and trying to reboot for 35 minutes now, can't even shut down. OMG Windows blows. How can a vanilla install be SO bad?
The start menu won't show on my Windows 10 work laptop. I hardly use it but I have to use the search bar to get programs.
Now that's weird. Time to reinstall! (As a VM running on Linux, of course.)
Wish I could.
Why can't you?

RE: Managing Hyper-Vposted in IT Discussion
@Tim_G My annoyance with Proxmox is the need to change the repo from enterprise to the no subscription repo.
I don't really have an issue with them using Debian because majority of time is spent on the
webui.I do wonder why they don't use Fedora unless they are more familiar with Debian.

I know Scott has argued for not putting the Hyper-V hosts into the domain at all, it's one less point of failure for the Hyper-V hosts.
But, if you do that, making connections to other domain connected file servers are challenging at least, and impossible at best - when being managed remotely due to delegation of authentication being passed from the management PC through the Hyper-V host to the domain connected resources.
We haven't actually tested this setup yet, so we don't know that it's impossible, but we do know it will be a challenge at the least.
I have been out of the hypervisor world for a minute but I never want that layer joined to a domain. However I have no experience managing larger deployments. Just seems like added stress.
If you have an domain in placed, you minds well take advantage of having the hypervisor joined too.
Now with Hyper-V 2016 and Windows 10 it is a lot easier to setup in a workgroup compare to 2012 r2.

ZT announced a new community thing nine hours ago.
Where?
They announced on the Twitter feed which is doing a few posts per day. It's available in a new tab on the my.zerotier.com site.
It is some slack thing.

Is this actually a slack thing? or just slack-like?
Mattermost is an open source slack alternative if you interested setting up one.

The test with Gecko Linux is working great. No issues like before, sleep works fine. Fingers crossed, but it looks good.
It's looking so good, I might switch my desktop!
Are you using static or rolling version?
Have you tried the cinnamon version? -

The issue is definitely around the Lenovo hardware, not seeing this issue on any other Korora device.
Does Linux work at all with Lenovo?

I tried Gnome 3 recently, but went back to Cinnamon. Gnome 3 was too "busy". Too much stuff on the screen and too many jarring things that make me forget what I was working on. Cinnamon is better designed for continuous workflow.
Do you like Cinnamon (vanilla) in general or the style that is offered on Korora and Linux Mint?

Linux had desktops of this type long before there was Windows XP. XP is a copy of KDE, really.
I always like using Windows Classic when I used XP. I also like KDE3 but when KDE4 was released I couldn't stand all that plasma crap that was introduced.

Is everyone still stuck on Windows XP like Desktop? I keep hearing why not mate, cinnamon and so on. I've always felt at home using Unity/Gnome3. Heck, I wouldn't mind using Gnome 3 on Windows.
Because it is a good model. I have Unity on my Ubuntu machine and it is okay, but it's not as nice to find applications as with the old menu system. If you don't know what you want, it is hard to find and it can take a bit longer to track things down. And the ability to find running apps doesn't seem as intuitive.
I agree about finding running apps. For me, finding applications is no different from finding applications on my iPhone.

I seriously think that open source hypervisors scares the hell out of decision makers and most IT people in general.
Which is bad, because the reaction should be the other way... closed source is scarier because it lacks the protections of open source.
I was one those people that was either fearful or confused about open source OS or hypervisors back in the day.
Unlike today's, I'm fully capable of figure it out on my own or with the help of a huge amount of resource available to me compare to back then. -

The button that locks rotation seems to reset itself on reboot, which seems to be connected to the problem. Seeing if setting that changes things.
Are you testing Gnome3 or Cinnamon on Korora? Because I haven't experience that issue with Fedora Gnome3.
