Lunch was some lovely sesame marinated lean pork over rice. But dinner last night was some grilled alpaca tenderloin. Highly recommended if you can find it. So tender and delicious.

Alpaca? Interesting. Management has been trying to find something more exotic to sell to their customers. Beef, pork, and chicken can only get so much buzz.

My chef neighbor found many exotic, farm-raised meats at a local specialty shop. Alpaca, water buffalo, bison, rabbit, etc. And if you have a Sprouts store near you, they often carry ostrich meat.

Alpaca can best be described as a cross between grass fed beef and pork. Light flavored and so tender, but still red. We cooked this to medium well and it was juicy and fork tender. I don't think you could overcook it.

Is "rabbit" considered "exotic"? Around here, that's just what the rednecks eat in the winter in their stews.

      MangoLassi Boar hunt!

We had wild boar in Congo a few times; it's very good. Never had to hunt for it though, the pygmies brought it to the door.

Could be worse, a movie meant to be in 3D. Those are always terrible in 2D or 3D.

As soon as they make a movie "for 3D", it instantly revolves around a theme of "let's do things on purpose to show off the 3D", and then it becomes nothing but the gimmick, and you know the movie will be worthless, unless you actually wanted to sit through a 2-hour 3D demo. I actually like a 2D-shot movie converted for 3D better for that reason, but then it sucks because you're watching it in 3D, which is meh at best. We accidentally got tickets for a showing that was in 3D, and we really wished that we had just seen it in 2D. It was kind of annoying (Terminator: Genisys).

I thought you were sledding this weekend? 😛
It hit 62 here today and the little snow we had is all but gone. We went cruising in the Bumblebee with the sunroof wide open. Great weather today!

Wow. I got a whole entire topic dedicated to the discussion of whether I should not work today or if I never work at all. I wish I was as confused as everyone else seems to be, but sadly, I can clearly tell the difference. It's just another day around here, but it sounds like I may get some cake. I like cake.

      Thanks for the birthday wishes!

The policy setting was applied. We'll see what happens. This has been happening (according to what I've been told- the event log seems to agree) sometimes as much as 10-15 times over the course of a day.

I feel like part of the story is missing. Do you have any logs to prove this?

Logs to prove what? That the RDS session is dropping out?

So no errors just a dropped connection? That doesn't make sense

The RDS server has these that seem likely to correspond to the drops:
      Windowss logs/System:

A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 10. The Windows SChannel error state is 1203.

      That's a security check issue.

Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Distributed COM > Application Compatibility and enable "Allow local activation security check exemptions".

Where is that? I can't find it anywhere...

      That looks like GPO

I'm in local security policies, tried local group policies...

There is no local group policy editor installed on the RDS server. At least not that I can find.

That's not what I mean. Group Policy manager should be run from either an admin workstation in that domain, or from a DC itself. Modern Group Policy uses a central store for ADMX files so everyone see the same settings. These settings get updated by installing new version of the ADMX files from MS. Each new version of Windows means you need to download and install the newest ADMX pack to the central store.

I searched group policy management up and down (on the DC) and can't find computer configuration anywhere.

Frankly I was thinking there might be something in the Client side log showing RDP was crashing - but now that Gene's found RDS Server side errors - he has something to go on.

I'm guessing that some kind of data is trying to come back across the RDS session to the RDS server, but time will tell.

      Gene?

What are the system specs of the workstations they are using as well as the network equipment installed? 200ms seems high for ny state to north carolina. I have a friend who lives in raleigh (I live in NJ) and we have much less than even 75ms if I try to remote to one of his servers.

My last company had a similar setup. 33 sites remoting to a single terminal server at the main site to access network resources.

Keep in mind that the main office is more or less in a corn field, 5 miles outside a dinky town, and the only cellphone service there is via the wifi in the building. The ISP is the local phone company. On the other side, the location is outside a small city area, but at least on a road with a couple other businesses nearby. I'm getting those pings from a server at the main location pinging the router at the remote location. It's not always that bad, but we see it more than occasionally in that range.

    • RDS / Outlook interactions causing crashes?

I am currently dealing with an issue where a remote office runs their ERP system on their desktops via an RDP connection back to the hosting server at the main office. When a user at the remote office has a local install of Outlook open as well as their RDP session, and they decide to click from the RDP session aplication to Outlook, the RDP session frequently crashes. This could be happening with other open local applications, but Outlook is the only one that I have heard specifically named as an issue.

The remote office is connected by a site-to-site VPN to the main office, with an Edge Router at each end of the pipe. We are seeing pings ranging from 60ms to over 200ms, with an occasional timeout, and the average is about 100-120ms. I'm not sure if this latency has anything to do with a local app causing an RDP session to drop, but I'm curious what the community has to say about this.

Have you seen this happen, or something similar? What was the root issue?
