Goodbye 3DTV

That was a pretty sad game lineup.

Probably cheaper just to buy more televisions at that point. Since this stuff requires headsets, likely the full 3D immersive headsets like Vive and Oculus are killing off this idea as they are far more advanced in the same genre. And not many people buying 3D TVs want to be stuck playing in 2D. The Vive would give each player their own 3D rather than just two 2D.

I've got a 70" TV with 3D capabilities, but I've never used them.
I bought the TV off of craigslist for a few hundred. And it's worked great as far as standard TV's go.

The only good use of a 3DTV is split screen gaming. Not, that I've ever done it, but it looks cool.

Do any games support that?
My nephews have done it with their PS3 and an LG TV with the silly glasses

No idea. I think it was a racing game. I don't remember. They're too young for FB, so I can't ask them

@Dashrender I got the TV on discount and I wasn't even bothered about 3D Either. I feel curved TV's are gimmicky as well, but that's my opinion, I know a lot of people have them.
I'm completely there with you on the curved TV. I stuck to traditional 2D flat TV.

I hate 3D movies. Would never do 3D at home. I always have a headache after a 3D movie. I only go when it is the only movie time that works for me, and often then I won't go unless it is a movie I just absolutely want to see. One of my many issues about 3D are the glasses. I already wear glasses so I can make out the TV with out it being one huge mass of blob images, blob images in 3D still not that appealing so I have to wear two sets of glasses. Add 3D glasses with regular glasses and the excess weight starts to hurt after awhile and I am convinced this is one of the causes of my headaches. I don't know why theaters don't offer clip on 3D movie glasses for the people with glasses. Still it is just a gimmick. The only movie that I thought 3D actually added something to it was Marvel's Dr. Strange, and it wasn't a must have thing for the movie.

I like 3D for gaming, a little. But really, only a little.

Could be worse, a movie meant to be in 3D. Those are always terrible in 2D or 3D.
As soon as they make a movie "for 3D", it instantly revolves around a theme of "let's do things on purpose to show off the 3D", and then it becomes nothing but the gimmick, and you know the movie will be worthless, unless you actually wanted to sit through a 2-hour 3D demo. I actually like a 2D-shot movie converted for 3D better for that reason, but then it sucks because you're watching it in 3D, which is meh at best. We accidentally got tickets for a showing that was in 3D, and we really wished that we had just seen it in 2D. It was kind of annoying (Terminator: Genisys).

I just can't do 3D right now, at least not till my left eye gets the post-cataract laser procedure like my right got. Having slightly different vision in both eyes causes all sorts of pain and discomfort for me while watching anything in 3D.
Good riddance, stay off my lawn 3D.

I didn't even bother with 3D TV's. Always thought it was a way for them to jack up the prices. When I buy movies, I mainly want the Blu-Ray disc and never ever concerned with the 3D disc.
However, I am currently waiting for the price of 4k players to come down so that I can get one of those and begin playing 4k movies in true 4k. But with the evolution of technology still increasing, I am starting to believe that discs in general will eventually become a thing of the past.

I don't think there is a consumer market 4k player yet, is there? The only sources I know of are streaming services like Netflix and Prime.

I thought discs went away years ago.

There are some 4k players out there, but they're still pretty pricey. Looking at about $300+ for a player.

Nope, still selling discs. Mainly in combo packs, such as the DVD, Blu-Ray, and a digital download for $20-25 per movie.
-
I only buy movies in disc format... than convert to what format I want it in.

If you place a value on not replacing the things every 4-5 years, then yes, they did.

Done that before, trying to persuade the wife to looking at either Plex or XBMC, but she's not too impressed with either one. She's not impressed with watching movies stored from a hard drive. She feels that it is still piracy, even though I tried to explain to her that we are not selling or giving away copies to the Internet and that it is still staying in our possession and that we have the right to backup the movie for archival purposes. Still not working.

@NerdyDad It's very much a grey area....its understandable.
