How do you find the right employer?
-
This could also be said for how do you find your life partner.
In many regards you might have a closer relationship with your employer than you do with your spouse.
You often spend far more time at your place of employment than with your spouse. You spend even more awake time at work, that's for certain.
So really, how do you find your perfect work-spouse. Someone who you love to be around 40+ hours a week who doesn't mind that you have someone else on the side (husband or wife)

Unless you and your spouse do the same work. @Danielle-Ralston @Mike-Ralston

I'm not talking about what you are "good at" - What skills you need to learn or certifications.
Let's take you as you are, chances are someone out there is looking for you. How do you find each other?
That is really the problem. You generally cannot.
Job boards and sites like Monster help to alleviate the basics, but once you are looking more specifically, there are not any good choices.
The best solution I am aware of would be to hire a headhunter. One paid by you to only find a job for you. Not a generic head hunter from an agency.
Even that horribly expensive method would not find all the jobs, but would have the best odds of finding the right match.

There are the rare exceptions, like @Minion-Queen and @art_of_shred of course.
But the reality is, when you're looking for that dream employer, they're also looking for their dream employee.
Which isn't at all unlike looking for your dream-somebody to get married to.
The cases of people who are already together and starting or running a business together are already the exclusion to the question, because this would mean that they are looking for another work-spouse besides the one they already have.
(IE they want to quit their day job for another one)

Is there a dating site for IT guys needed?

Sites like this and others are great places to find your dream employer. I know this is/and others are where I shop around.

I've got some free beer tokens if you ever visit London.

So the question is @Minion-Queen did you always plan to work for your self, and have your spouse (@art_of_shred ) work with / for you?
Was it just by chance, how did the circumstances come to happen that you have the "correct employer" (yourself) and you work with your family?

So posting here would be the right place... although not so much if you are looking for a new job discretely.

It just happened. This is my second go around with NTG, but first time I am in charge. Looking for people I can trust to work for me is not easy. I have hired lots of duds (horrible horrible duds) in my quest to find the perfect team. @art_of_shred love being together almost 24/7. We have no issue working with one another, who better to trust and work with?
@Mike-Ralston has been on the path to working on computers for a long time. I doubt he would be working for an MSP as of yet but has had the opportunity to intern and now work full time. I can trust him and I know where he lives and how to torture him if he is a pain. He has also learned how I want things done and doesn't have bad habits from anywhere else to break.
