RM UPS for SMB:
-
Doing some back reading on UPS units, I'm looking at a Eaton unit for a small SMB with about 15 users.
Preferences is for a Rack Mount unit that can support the following equipment:
- FIOS router
- UBNT Router
- UBNT 24 PoE router
- Dell PE 610
- Lenovo NAS
Right now I'm leaning towards the Eaton 5PX 1500

I had two of these at my last position and had no real issues. I forgot to get the networking module though so that was one downside.

As the PE610 has dual PSU, is it a must that both need to be in a UPS,.. You never want to have both in the same UPS.

Dual PSU should ideally have each PSU going into an independent UPS unit.

Ideally,.. I fully agree.
But if the site refuse a second unit....

Then tell them that they are killing their battery time trying to save $200
Plugging both into the same UPS will just drain faster. Also plugging one into power and not a UPS will cause it to drain faster because the system will kick the one powered PSU into a higher consumption mode when it detects a failure on the other.
Either way a significant drain on the UPS battery.

And it is more than just drain, it is partially defeating the purpose of the second PSU. It's like having two NICs bonded on your server but only having one switch to plug them into. Sure, it is better than nothing, but it is not delivering the redundancy that you hope for or pay for. If anything goes wrong with that one UPS the redundant PSUs will be useless.
