Have soccer games in the morning. Then off to Six (American) Flags over Texas with the kids for a company picnic. Still wish it was the 6 original flags (~mutters something about them having to be politically correct or something~)
you're kidding, they added American to the name?
You'd have to in texas. They'd assume six Texan flags.
Wrong. It represents the 6 different countries that have one time or another laid claim to Texas. France, Spain, Mexico, Republic of Texas, Confederacy, and US.
But not Germany? That's odd.
No, because Germany never laid claim. We just had a lot of German immigrants which really helped to settle Texas. But they never laid claim to Texas.

What do you mean they didn't? They always made claim to it. Remember Spain wasn't an independent country during the whole of its ownership of Texas, it was part of the German Empire. Germany had claim to it longer than any other country in history.
Spain was the German "department" that oversaw it.

Then Spain was the proxy for Germany, but Texas history in Public school gives the credit to Spain because Spanish ships couldn't navigate worth crap, stopped in about today's Alabama and dropped off some men. Storm came and pushed the ship back to sea to eventually land in about Galveston and try to navigate back to Alabama, everyone dying on the way.

Well we know that they don't teach history. But it would be like saying that a state laid claim instead of a country. Spain wasn't a proxy. Spain is the "state" of Germany that Texas was under.
Just like Texas is a state in the US.
-
That's why there were so many German enclaves in Texas. As part of the German Empire, everyone in the empire has the right to live in texas.
-
Just like how Texans love to say that we are the only state that used to be a country when in fact Hawaii was it's own monarchy before getting ripped and turning into a state.

And all thirteen colonies were their own countries before joining together to form the US.

Pretty sure there were many dozens of native "nations" before all the scumbag white people showed up... but they didn't have flags, so of course they got murdered in cold blood.
Glad I'm not a descendant of those murderous, genocidal Spaniards....

About to go pack for a no-tech weekend. I'll be back in touch Monday.
Have a good weekend.
It was. Tiring, but good.

Counting days before my vacation. 3 More days
-
@QuixoticJeremy is coming down to Dallas on Friday night. We are doing work all day on Saturday. Then Saturday night we are flying at around midnight out to Phoenix where we will work all day on Sunday. Really... working and traveling all weekend.
-
@QuixoticJeremy and I are in Phoenix and already hard at work on engineering projects.
-
Took the kids to downtown Chicago today to see the bean. Was planning on going to the Art Institute, but the weather was so nice we spent the day in Millinium Park. Lunch was at the Nutella Cafe.

Makes me miss my summers when I was studying at VanderCook.

This weekend I am going to spend in New Zealand. My best friend is getting married in Auckland. I have never been in NZ so I am a bit nervous. I need to come in time to Alexandra park. I saw the pictures of that location, the territory is so huge. It must cost a fortune to have a wedding there.
-
Family time weekend. Home for once.
-
Cooking up a bunch of southern food today (collard greens, pinto beans, cornbread, etc) because some friends are coming over later. Then Saturday, it's off to the N Ga mountains.
-
Big gig tonight (Brennan is back for the first time in almost a year) and playing with a friends band so should be a good night.
Another gig tomorrow night (I am going to skip and work all night).
Sunday is NOTHING and I am keeping it that way. -
Very happy to just have a weekend off.
-
Get to be at home again this weekend, at least thus far. Going to be knocking off of work here shortly.
