It's the best all around head design because it allows for the torque to remain in the screw when the driver is in some way off-tilted from perpendicular.A drywall canon and deck canon won't allow for anything less than perpendicular so Phillips wins the day there.
Qualifier: I've done lots of subcontractor work.
