I witnessed a person put RDP open to the internet on a new server and used Admin* as the password. Server was hit with ransomware in less than 2 days. Needless to say, they had to start over.

Maybe it was a POC about how weak passwords are bad?

@dbeato Yep. I went to the client to discuss a new server and the developer said he had a problem with his new server. I asked if he had a secure password. He said yes - Admin* Luckily there wasn't anything important on the box yet.

yea thats why i was like maaaaaaybe that's something else. and it did, another reason I am paranoid and triple check.

I bet that was fun! Did you find any snakes or venomous spiders in there? I thump stuff before sticking my hands in now. I found a black widow or three hiding in a rack in an electrical closet one day.

How about bump? That might work better. Hit it with a stick (GENTLY! -- unless you're actually trying to break something) and see if anything crawls out, hisses, and/or jumps after you.
