Money. Didn't have much of it at the time, and I needed those dollars more than a damn doctor. But even if I had a money fountain, I'm not really into the whole going to the doctor bit. Most of the ones I've been to are somewhere between totally checked out and downright asshole.
That's why I'm saying - find a new doctor, one that doesn't require frequent visits for things like medication refills, etc. Once a year, I'm currently OK with, kinda like changing your password once a year, just because. But more often then that - I need a good reason why you need to see me for a non narcotic med refill.
Insurance providers might dictate the followup visits.
That's between them and the doctor, though.

The insurance is putting these mandates on the doctors and hospitals.

Any 1st world country other than the US has a decently stable universal healthcare system.

Hard to say, they've all been great. We've used healthcare directly in France, Greece and Italy and all were amazing. No waits AT ALL, zero cost (Greece charged us $10 one time for unlimited lab work beyond our ER visits) and most normal drugs were OTC not requiring a doctor and when they did require a DR, the DR was free. They didn't charge to keep you from healthcare.
When you need a pharmacist, they are quick, cheap and easy. Also no waits, and the cost is tiny. In the US you pay an insanely expensive pharmacist to dole out your medicine when there is no need, a computer should check things. In Europe, I've not seen it. Just someone checks that you have a script and gives you what is needed.
In NIcaragua, doctors are free and work at pharmacies, but yo udon't need a script for anything. Just buy what you need. But I didn't need anything so didn't test that out.

No, it's driven by doctors. Take away the insurance, and the issue remains 100%. Insurance companies control your money, but doctors control your access to healthcare. I use doctors directly without insurance and still am extorted. If I need medicine, I can't just buy it without paying a bribe to a doctor.
That's the way it feels with my wife and her Zoloft prescription. Gotta see the doc every 6 months to keep the refills coming.
yeah - that seems over zealous requirement for visits. Has your wife asked why the need for such frequent visits? If so, what was the reasoning?
I definitely agree that some doctors hold you hostage with visits that aren't needed to line their pockets.
Just a "routine checkup to make sure they don't need to adjust it"... How about we call you if we think something is up?
Exactly, if there are no changes on my side, then there is obviously no need to change anything. That said, I'm still not against yearly required visits.

Even in your free healthcare they are DEFINITELY taking money out of your ass - it's called taxes. But really that is outside this conversation.

But at this point, everyone would have insurance and to avoid being dropped for any reason ever all anyone would have to do is visit the doctor for an annual checkup.
This would make the practice a lot like getting your oil changed.
