Login issues with some RDP users
-
After performing a server migration, some users connecting via RDP are having login problems. When these users connect to the session, only a black screen appears, they do not even see the Windows taskbar and they cannot log out of the session.

RDS? Assuming this is Windows Server? What version?

@scottalanmiller
The issue is related to RDS.
The Version is Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Standard -
Have you looked at the event viewer on the users pc? on the server for that user?

We had a similar problem quite some time ago, can't remember the why, but the solution was to restart the audiosrv service in the session. Desktop would hang. Sometimes you would have mouse, sometimes not.
We ended up setting it to delayed start, that worked most of the time, but not always.

Wonder if that is similar to the one server that we have to stop/start the print spoiler. Else user gets hung at the spinning wheel login ‘applying settings’

I had the same black screen problem with RDS on Server 2016 a few years ago and the issue ended up being the Webroot antivirus we had installed.

@crisurqui18 We have had issues with Dell Laptops specially the Precision series when their laptop display is closed and people remote for support or they do remote to the device while it is closed and the laptop is online and it doesn't load. Once the Laptop display is opened then boom it started working, weird but it did work.

this goes back to 2016, but sounds just like what you're experiencing:
*Symptoms
After you apply this update on a Remote Desktop Session (RDS) host, some new users cannot connect to an RDP session. Instead, those users see a black screen, and they are eventually disconnected. This issue occurs at unspecified intervals.*
