This also highlights the problems of having different IT vendors for different pieces of your IT. No one has a holistic picture and no one is responsible for making things work. It's all politics, not business. He's designed his vendor structure around avoiding profits. Why? No one knows. But everything is telling a consistent story.
I'm pretty sure that he's made this out to be my fault, and I will have to answer for it tomorrow.
Oh and the network guy agreed with me, we need to move an AP 10 feet from it's current position.
Just point out that you solved the issue and documented said fix before he "fired" you. So that when talking to your boss (and make sure this is true after networking fixes this, we are only assuming that you have the fix right now) you point out that you had the fix and were blocked twice from implementing it. Don't back down from that. He lied to stop you from finding his networking mistake, then he fired you to stop you from implementing it and proving him a liar and saboteur.
His firing you is actually "proof" that he knew you had the answer, which he's admitted to previously, and that his interactions with you were to block you from fixing the issue, as he also effectively admitted to previously.

Just make sure you've got all in info ready
Also keep in contact with the network guy so when it's fixed by sorting the AP's out you can give the client a virtual middle finger
At this point, the only thing that matters is what Will's boss says.
We will find that out tomorrow.

It is documented that I tried to help him, and have explained everything to my bosses as of yesterday afternoon.

I'd fire you for talking to me like

It's condescending and rude, even if you are correct in just moving an AP

No, he was cut off. Condescending and rude was what he was trying to stop. The owner is documented to be idiotic and acts like a child, it's not condescending to have to talk to his level. Talking below someone's level is condescension, talking at their level is polite. It's not rude to point out that someone has cut you off and is stopping you from doing their job.
An owner sure can fire you for not brown nosing, but not brown nosing isn't the same as being rude. If you ask someone for help, then stop them from helping, it's not rude if they point out that you aren't letting them help. It feels rude because of the embarrassment in being caught being both rude and foolish.

I saw it mostly as Will's own frustration at the owner for being rude to him first, and likely Will didn't feel there was any other way to get through to him.. but instead of getting through... they guy fired him.. no surprise really.

Which is exactly what you do when you are a blowhard and feel embarrassed when the people you hire make you look like a fool. All very predictable.

@WrCombs said in Ipad guru/ Site connectivity issue:

the first words out his mouth were " I dont know if I should be talking to you , but this is my issue, and I'm so sick and tired of dealing with this crap every weekend, and I'm tired of losing all this money because you guys cant fix the fucking Point of Sale system. then I got some people telling me to talk to Ted(the network company's owner) and I just think you guys don't know what you;re doing."
when I started talking to him about the stuff and he cut me off, I did get a little frustrated, You dont call someone and ask for help then cut them off and stop them from helping you, then blow up on them when they try to pull the conversation back to what is going to help you. that's bad character as a person in general. -

Maybe he's a nice person and just bad at business, but if I acted like that, I sure hope my staff would have some strong words with me.

but that was never the intent.
I don't go to work everyday to make people feel embarrassed, I go to help people, and do the stuff I like to do. -

this is only the 5th time he's gone off on me, first time was the day I met him.
it's been nothing but bad experiences but I was still there to do the right thing to help him and his business.
Maybe that wasn't the right way to handle the situation, I'm no where close to perfect as a person. But I know that respect and manners go a long way when you're trying to get people to help you. With that said, I'm excited to see where tomorrow goes.. but til then, I think it's time for a sunday evening beer.

Five times is a LOT for you to go off on a single tech at a single isolated vendor that handles one little thing for them. I doubt I've gone off on five vendors ever, in twenty two years as a business owner.

oh believe me, and 3 of them were through text messages with 4 other people (1 other from my company) on the thread... safe to say it's been a rocky road for me with this one customer

That kind of behaviour is likely to result in shit not getting fixed. Oh wait, that's exactly what he's getting!
-
If he is like this with his trusted vendor partners, imagine how crappy his service to his customers is!

You might hope it - but in reality you hold their financial life in their hands... they ain't gonna tell you you're shit at business.

That's very bitter. Sure, in an unhealthy company that's true, one where politics is more important than results. But I've worked plenty of places where things were healthy and you could or were expected to escalate issues no matter whom they were with. Even at some pretty overall unhealthy places I was still able to go to the owner / CEO and air concerns with their performance.
