Okay okay geez.... you guys made me get back on the healthy eating wagon. I have about 75 pounds to lose. I am getting about a mile walk in a night, even though it hurts. Orthopedic doctor wants to do surgery on my leg/back, once my weight gets down.

Changed my walk yesterday to have a 30 second run/jog then walk, then run again..
I hurt this morning.

I am not a doctor, nor do I pretend to be one. I simply have had back surgery, and several people in my family have as well and this is what I have seen. From my research back surgery to eliminate pain has a low success rate, but surgery to fix motor function is often a requirement. I was to the point I was loosing motor function in my left leg due to nerve damage. Best decision of my life. Everyone else I know that went to an orthopedic doctor for pain has been through multiple surgeries and left dependent on pain meds, and is still in pain, and often as bad or worse than they started. I encourage you to do your research first, and wait until you get the 75lbs off. You will feel a ton better from that alone. It is a long road, but you can do it.

@s.hackleman My lower spine is not attached to my upper spine, the bones in my lower back that interlock the spine together are broken off and gone. I believe from injuries when I was a prison guard but it could be genetics. Been that way for awhile. It is just time for me to have the spine fused together to prevent further injury and nerve damage.

Yes, but when you find that your walk turns into a jog...you will be very glad you did this!
I started doing small jogging sprints in my regular walks, then moved up to intervals where it was like 1 minute jog 2 minutes walk. Now when I do my walk it's the first minute I walk to warm up, then from minute 2 to minute 17 I jog (trust me I'm beat by minute 17), then from minute 17 to 19 I walk to cool off. This was all over time of course.
I NEVER thought in a MILLION years I'd be able to sustain a jog for 16 minutes in my life!

I'm close to starting P90X. They discontinued the p90x protein bars and I'm looking for a good alternative if any of you have a recommendation. Thanks

Protein bars/shakes etc. are not strictly necessary, depending on whose info you look at not even helpful. If you want them anyway I have used https://us.myprotein.com/ previously for powder. They are one of a few producers of protein supplements that have been independently tested and don't come out looking like absolute shit.
They don't come out as perfect or anything but their labeling is somewhat more accurate than most and the prices are pretty good especially when they are doing a sale which happens frequently. I have no idea of the quality of products that aren't part of those tests which includes their brownies and cookies which are possibly closest to what you are looking for. You can check on ratings at https://labdoor.com/ there is definitely some new info since I last looked at it.

There is less cholesterol in an egg than the trans fats we generally consume (Mayo Clinic)

In that case, and while I don't know or need to know the circumstances - if it is at 'that' level - I hope you are consulting with your physician.

I asked some of my friends who are doctors (I worked in the operating room for a long time)

Very recently I had 6 months worth of diagnostics done on my heart. They were testing for Long QT syndrome which runs in my family but I went through the ringer entirely. My cardiologist recommended a fitness routine and I printed out all of the information for him. Once he read it he said it's good but I need to exercise for a few weeks before I start doing it
-
@wirestyle22 Your best bet is don't eat junk food, count your calories, and start walking. You don't need to worry about macro nutrients and strict workout routines for a long time until you have done the above for at least 6 months to a year. If you need any more than that, you need to sit down with a physician and work with them directly. There are 1,000 different diets, and ways to do it. There is not a best one one or right one, or a best practice, sorry. They all work, just find one you can stick too and do it, no exceptions, and give it a few months. You will feel better.

This. This. This.
I went from 350+ pounds to 175 pounds doing this.
