To all you "dev ops/coding/programming" fellows with mad skills..
Any chance you can "fork" this script from Google Cloud to Vultr?

      blog: https://metis.fi/en/2018/02/unifi-on-gcp/
      script: https://github.com/riihikallio/unifi

      message from author of script:
Anyone can fork my script from GitHub and modify it for Azure, AWS or whatever they desire.
You could do it for Vultr!
The only CGP specific parts are accessing the metadata about the VM (very similar in other system) and rsyncing the backups to a storage bucket (simple as well).

@fateknollogee Just looking at the script for 30 seconds here, I'm not sure what all it's doing. What is it that you find difficult in setting up a unifi or unms controller?

@travisdh1 This script auto-updates when a new version of fw is released.

Unifi updates itself when firmware is available. It does not update devices. I would never want that.

Imagine your devices doing rolling restarts in the middle of a day at a college campus. . . LOL.

                What about Unifi itself?

Does the script update Unifi when a new version comes out?

It is simply adding the repo. so it could.

You never said they didn't either. You said:

Which implies to me it updates firmware.

So what @FATeknollogee actually meant is that the script updates the UniFi controller when a new version of the controller is released.

That has zero to do with new firmware. New firmware is released without updating the UniFi controller itself all the time.

So I just read the complete script.

It does much more than setup a basic install as I do here:
                                https://mangolassi.it/topic/14601/how-to-install-the-ubiquiti-unifi-controller-on-debian-9-1

On top of the basic install, the script also sets up things like Let's Encrypt, automatic apt updates (what @FATeknollogee called firmware updates), automatic database repair, automatic backups, etc.

No one. Because there is nothing here to do except a couple minor system configs.
And then a big config of how t connect to a third party storage to send the backups.

I don't quite get your answer..does that mean it's too easy or it's not worth the effort?

Also, the script is doing things that should be taken care of by the OS.

The backups are the only thing that I'd consider scripting, and things like Duplicati make those easier than this script.

Basically yes, it is not worth the effort. You can setup apt to update automatically yourself quite trivially.

                                            The same for Let's Encrypt.

Reskimming, I am not sure WTF he is doing with lighttpd I would need to look closer.

But the scripting of the backup to a third party site is going to be totally custom to every install. This is way too complex to setup in a simple script.

It works for him because everything is tied to the Google account.
