Which implies to me it updates firmware.

So what @FATeknollogee actually meant is that the script updates the UniFi controller when a new version of the controller is released.
That has zero to do with new firmware. New firmware is released without updating the UniFi controller itself all the time.

So I just read the complete script.
It does much more than setup a basic install as I do here:

aptupdates (what @FATeknollogee called firmware updates), automatic database repair, automatic backups, etc. -

No one. Because there is nothing here to do except a couple minor system configs.
And then a big config of how t connect to a third party storage to send the backups. -

Because it's so easy, it's not worth the effort.
Also, the script is doing things that should be taken care of by the OS.
The backups are the only thing that I'd consider scripting, and things like Duplicati make those easier than this script.

Basically yes, it is not worth the effort. You can setup
aptto update automatically yourself quite trivially.The same for Let's Encrypt.
Reskimming, I am not sure WTF he is doing with
lighttpdI would need to look closer.But the scripting of the backup to a third party site is going to be totally custom to every install. This is way too complex to setup in a simple script.
It works for him because everything is tied to the Google account.
