@travisdh1 This script auto-updates when a new version of fw is released.
Unifi updates itself when firmware is available. It does not update devices. I would never want that.
What about Unifi itself?
Does the script update Unifi when a new version comes out?

It is simply adding the repo. so it could.

Imagine your devices doing rolling restarts in the middle of a day at a college campus. . . LOL.
LOL not!...who said anything about rolling restarts?

I never said devices got auto-updated.
-
Still not sure this is all that necessary.

You never said they didn't either. You said:

Which implies to me it updates firmware.
-
So what @FATeknollogee actually meant is that the script updates the UniFi controller when a new version of the controller is released.
That has zero to do with new firmware. New firmware is released without updating the UniFi controller itself all the time.

So I just read the complete script.
It does much more than setup a basic install as I do here:
https://mangolassi.it/topic/14601/how-to-install-the-ubiquiti-unifi-controller-on-debian-9-1On top of the basic install, the script also sets up things like Let's Encrypt, automatic
apt
updates (what @FATeknollogee called firmware updates), automatic database repair, automatic backups, etc. -
@jaredbusch Thanks for reading up on it. (unlike others that just comment without reading)
btw, I am using it on Google & it works great! Now, who wants to "fork" this to Vultr!!

No one. Because there is nothing here to do except a couple minor system configs.
And then a big config of how t connect to a third party storage to send the backups. -

Because it's so easy, it's not worth the effort.
Also, the script is doing things that should be taken care of by the OS.
The backups are the only thing that I'd consider scripting, and things like Duplicati make those easier than this script.

Umm, no it's not. Did you actually read it?

Basically yes, it is not worth the effort. You can setup
apt
to update automatically yourself quite trivially. The same for Let's Encrypt.
Reskimming, I am not sure WTF he is doing with
lighttpd
I would need to look closer. But the scripting of the backup to a third party site is going to be totally custom to every install. This is way too complex to setup in a simple script.
It works for him because everything is tied to the Google account.
