just to be clear, this is basically an open source cloud version of office, at least in function? If this is the case, and it is integrated into NC, would it only be the web based view of NC?

OnlyOffice has desktop and mobile clients, as well.

Those I knew were free. I do not use it because of this.

No issue here, so far. Fedora 29 with Cinnamon and it just worked.

Using the snap install in this case.

Working well on Windows 10 too.

That happens with their repo or their rpm

If I had known there was going to a 100% off sale for porting, I would have planned accordingly. 😐

Big fan of both of those companies products.

Good, IMO it would be bad for us consumers.

I'd rather seem them competing against each other so we get better products. I think more innovation comes from competition.

Only to a point. There is plenty of competition already. Too much competition stops innovation, too. There is a careful balance.

Example... film grew best when there were two key players that had to beat each other on price and quality. And a third player who made crap for people who wanted something dirt cheap. Any fourth competitor would have only lowered the profits for the other three leading to less money (because of less value) from innovation.

As it is Logitech is up against tons of competitors. Microsoft is one of them. So no shortage of competition, just watering down of profits and investment money.

I see where you're coming from here - but how often do we see two goliaths heading an industry and innovation seems to stall - at least to the consumer.

Anytime consumers choose a product based on marketing rather than actual innovation.

Consumers determine innovation's priority in an non-monopoly marketplace, not competition. Competition does not drive innovation because consumers don't buy based on innovation.

I do. Innovation can and does tend to lead to better products. Unless it's Apple. I don't consider a larger screen, extra button bar, or new color innovative. 😉

All consumers say that they do, but very few actually do. And even if a few do, it has to be the majority - enough to make innovation more profitable than advertising.

consumers don't buy based on innovation

Or being able to market new innovative features or tech for an existing or new product...

No new features needed to market as if you have them. Just ask Apple.
