Yes, man people want to post stuff. That's the third time this was asked in the last day. As tempting (and easy) as it is to start bashing foolishness on other forums, we can't become a collective place for making everyone else look bad. Even though we are public and they are free to come here and defend themselves. Sadly, it's best for everyone if we allow those other forums, whichever ones they are, to make their own mistakes and not protect their users from predatory posting. It's their jobs, not ours, to have a community that will ensure that ridiculous stuff isn't allowed to happy without being challenged. If their users don't come here voluntarily, as much as we all want to help vet and protect, they've declined our input and we need to allow them their choice as adults to throw themselves to the wolves.

Refuses to run a current distribution for some reason, and has nothing virtualized and treats his systems like they're unimportant.

What outdated OS is the person using?

Ubuntu 17.10

@black3dynamite the guy above him, setup centos7 and needed clarification on what to do to complete the installation. Which I helped him with without issue.
Then he jumped in and said
JAHolcomb @JAHolcomb 13:23 Quick question, Sniteit says I have an invalid ubuntu version: 17.10 Why will this not install on this version?
-
Not very out of date, but out of date enough to be a problem.

When he is being told by the installation media, that the OS he is using is invalid (to old) the answer is pretty simple. Which he refused to listen.

Yeah, that's just idiotic.

Wow. I could only guess he didn’t even try to reading the documentation before deploying.

I honestly have no clue, this was a 5 minute conversation at most. Of which he continued with "I'm dusting off this old server because I have an immediate need" and "why doesn't it install" and "how can I make it install"
Rather than going with, well shit the installer is telling me it won't work here, let's try an updated distro and see what happens.
-
Snipe-IT has a few requirements of which there is nothing particularly odd there.
Why he would want to stick with outdated software. I have no idea, but I'm not going down that rabbit hole.
-
The simple fix is, "update" and try it again. Nothing odd at all.
Instead he keep with "I want to use this"

If his need was immediate, doing a fresh install correctly is way faster than fighting with a bad configuration.

That was exactly my point.
How could a need like this exist without infrastructure in place, I don't know. But it just doesn't make sense to the point where I can't even begin to understand.

I tried using their install script on a fresh Ubuntu 18.10 install last week and it said unsupported. So I just spun up Fedora 29 (which I wanted to use anyways) and it worked like a champ.
