We are leaving the island. At a minimum flooding is going to be an issue. Hopefully I have a house to come back to when this is all over with.

A friend who is on vacation in Jacksonville right now said he saw a motorcycle blow over last night. He's headed back north.

That wasn't from Matthew. We won't start feeling Matthew until tomorrow.

Weather said it upgraded back to a Category 4 after getting on open water again.
Also showing how close to landfall it is.
Good call to get out. -
Crazy how the models are showing that it may loop around and come back to hit the FL peninsula a 2nd time. No telling where it will go if that occurs and it enters the gulf.

Yeah I saw that on the news this morning, I wonder if it would gain strength again when it double backs, that would be insane.

Matthew is expected to make landfall right where my house is as a category 4. I spent 10 hours till 2am last night boarding up. We evacuated in the middle of the night last night to my parents which is about an hour I land.

Wow, good luck.
-
@IRJ: if you and your family wish to flee farther north, just say the word... Middle Georgia is nice this time of year, lol.
-
Oh wow, good luck. Stay safe and keep us up to date!

May you find safety, and upon your return, there is little damage.

Good luck! Which island?
Merritt Island in Florida. Not as bad as being in the Bahamas, but it isn't a good thing either.
That's in the middle of the river, right?

Yes, but technically they are saltwater lagoons even though they are named as rivers.

We are safe

We got really lucky that the storm weakened and went offshore a bit at the last minute.
At one point they thought it was gonna hit us directly as a category 5, but when it was all said and done it was a category 3 and it stayed offshore a little bit.
There's damage and flooding, but it could be worse. I gave no idea how bad my house is, but about 50 miles inland it isn't too bad.

Good to hear -
When will you be able to return?
-
I'd wait and see if Matthew is going to make a second pass like is expected or not before trying to go back.
