Hey @scottalanmiller is it snowing in Texas today? Weather maps make it look like DFW and Austin are getting some winter!

Just had KPMG reach out about a position. And it turns out that they do contract to hire for director level positions.
I can actually understand this as it goes along with much of the short term mentality bleeds into other areas.
If many individuals want to "job hop" (lack of better term) every two years or so, why not contract????
Not saying it will work out but KPMG thinks its worth a shot.

Yup, just a little up here. Maybe for an hour or two.

Don't confuse contract with contract to hire. I'm the world's biggest proponent of contracting. But also the biggest opponent of contract to hire. C2H means the company wants a contractor but is trying to trick someone who doesn't want to be a contractor into accepting the role under false pretenses.

Nope, they don't want someone who wants to do that, hence the "to hire" lie. They only want people who WANT to be hired, but are desperate so will do something irrational.

Ironically, I'm the only person on my team who is going to be in every day, lol. Everybody else has "Doctor Excuses" and actual for real health problems, so they don't have to work from the office... yet.

Assuming the company can exist that way - why are they pushing to bring anyone back? why not extend it permanently?

They either dislike their staff, or dislike profits.
Or both, obviously

They're not wrong.
XP was a decent Microsoft OS back in the day, but we're talking 2001 here.

Oh I agree, I just thought it was funny how they said it, lol .
we actually had an existing customer bring his own equipment he bought from another restaurant that went out of business in for us to "make work"All of them are XP devices. so I called him and said "I have the perfect solution.. Come pick them up, and buy these instead" and gave him a quote for new terminals with windows 10. I refuse to install Windows XP and my bosses agree with me.
I'll service XP but only for the customers that still have it.. everytime I do I tell them it's time to upgrade. and we don't support this System anymore.. I've suggested we fire them as customers, but my bosses dont want to lose their monthly Payment.

About a month ago I was cleaning out my grandparents basement with my dad and one of my uncles that I rarely see because he lives out of state. We came across an ancient desktop PC with a Windows XP sticker on it. My uncle got super revved up when I went to throw it away because "he has a friend who is a dev at MS, and he says that Windows XP is the safest operating system out there because it's so old that hackers don't even target it anymore." He ended up taking it home with him to "setup as a server." Okie dokie then... I couldn't believe it. He didn't want to hear anything I was trying to tell him.

sometimes, you can't get people to understand what they dont know, and if they were told by someone they "Trust" then what ever you say is void.. Sadly .

lol. State Run college. Warm Bodies on campus = More Money for certain things is the way I understand it. COVID comes back next week -- I mean the kids come back.

They claim that, but it's a lie. The "more money" comes from themselves. It's the org itself falsifying the numbers to make it look reasonable. But at the end of the day, it's the state trying to make excuses for losing taxpayer dollars.
