Just took a certification test for Take Out Software - got 53% correct...
I'm going to guess that that isn't passing?

Has 53% ever been passing for anything you've done?
53% of the time the service works, which is great compared to the 12% of the time before. Job well done!

Sure, lots of colleges use a "curve", which makes a lot of things passing at times.

Sure, at the public schools where everyone passes. College you're mostly just paying for the grade, so yes.

-
@scottalanmiller Your pretty behind on that!

What, myself and @scottalanmiller haven't been over this enough yet?
-
Yeah no, not passing - at all, so Im going back to re watching the videos and then going to try again .
edit These videos are so off tangent all the time though, and monotoned and boring as shit.
I told my boss I only got 53% correct - and he said " So just a little off huh?" -
Yeah the greatest disservice that can be done to the education is everyone passes, everyone gets a participation trophy, everyone gets a gold star.
Sorry, 53% isn't passing, it's not even close. Good luck next time.
(in my book anyways)

Just sticking with this a bit more.
Imagine if everyone regardless of skill was accepted into Seal Team 6 because they had to make it fair for everyone.
That's the same as applying a curve to education. It's difficult for my child to learn, okay, well life is tough. Sorry. Passing is passing and changing the standard of a passing grade would be the same as lowering the standards for Seal Team 6.
It's unrealistic, we'd end up with a special forces group of people, who might actually be special for things besides their training and dedication. Like a handicap of some sort.

Oh, no - I get how the world works, I was putting it out there that I failed the test - Nothing more/nothing less.
I maybe generation Z but I was not raised to be entitled to anything.
People think because I was raised in the 2000's that I think that Im entitled... -

I wasn't hammering on you, I was hammering on the fact that many people, the world over believe that the generally accepted standards need to be lowered for Timmy.
Sorry Timmy, we have a special class for you, where the class has lower standards, with students who have the same difficulties.
Where the normal students have their standard to meet, and Timmy's class has their own. The world isn't fair, never has been and never will be. So applying curves to things like College education, isn't helping anyone.
It's higher education for a reason.
I would assume a professor is applying a curve, because they need to meet their numbers, no other reason. Which is just damaging the community as a whole.
