UAC is so GD dumb.
Oh man, after yesterday's posts, just wait, you're going to get it!

@scottalanmiller
What is the point of using powershell to do something? Cant do a GD thing without being in admin mode. Why even have a nonprivileged mode?
Everytime i try to use it, even for simple things, i have to close my current session and reopen as administrator. So annoying. Where is sudo equivalent? Ive seen these fake sudo functions people make for powershell. MS has had 15 years to do this correctly, and has done not a single bleeping thing about it. -

Except, when I'm in BASH on Linux, I can go all down without needing those permissions. PS just isn't used for much yet, but in theory it could be. On Linux I actually work in the shell all day, so needing su or sudo isn't very common because I'm doing normal tasks, not admin ones, most of the time.
The issue is on Windows, PS is used almost exclusively to manage the OS rather than to actually do tasks, hence the weird issue that UAC is constantly needed.

Just always run as admin.

Just installed powershell 6. run it, try to update the help files. Just LOL.

On Linux, I can use
sudo pwsh
to have admin privileges when using PowerShell.# Admin Privileges sudo pwsh # Non-Admin Privileges pwsh

Yeah, a little silly that it is actually easier to use on Linux, in that sense.

@jaredbusch Is that considered slow? 40 minutes for 26 miles would be best traffic since the 1990s here.

No he isn't going to "get it" you're the person being a dumbass in yesterdays case. @momurda understands the issue, whereas you're refusing to take what I told you as a fact because of your inexperience administering windows.

You didn't tell me anything. We weren't discussing Windows, we were discussing the value of a blank video. You are just making up that I even responded about the Windows issue other than to point out over and over that I wasn't talking about it.

And again, you're skipping facts. . . Clearly the video isn't blank, it goes blank for the 6 seconds I'm typing credentials into a UAC prompt.

I think you've always had to run an elevated session of PowerShell to run
update-help

Sorry, just focusing on the relevant bit. The bit with the timing that was the only purpose of the video is blank.
How obtuse can you be? This is SO simple. The video is useless. Admit it, move on instead of trying to blame other people for random things just bceause you failed to make a point.

Wow you head is so far up your ass on this one.

Because nothing you said is correct. UAC doesn't blank out video, there is a really trivial way to show this stuff (like I said.) Basically, when I say that Windows is easy you claim I'm an idiot and dont' know Windows and say that you can't show this stuff for whatever reason. I also point out that the timing isn't shown and you ignore the fundamental fact that you didn't show any useful timing. Everything you said, from UAC keeping the screen from being recorded, to the PS being fast (we think) to how long it takes to do, to what the video shows, was wrong.
If you wanted to show how fast PS is, you'd have done something like this, which was no effort at all and shows four seconds AFTER a UAC...
-
Now do you see why I'm confused by your belief that Windows can't be shown, and why a blank screen doesn't tell us anything?
-
The entire basis for you saying I don't know Windows was because I was an idiot because I didn't know that you coudln't record someone typing in their UAC creds.
-
Without UAC, PS takes two seconds. Not horrible, but not all that fast. Better than I typically see, but I normally only see it with UAC as @momurda pointed out.
-
Hey @scottalanmiller and @DustinB3403 could you guys drop it, or take it to PMs. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm tired of the wrangling in this thread.
