Wow why do I still get shocked when an IT Manager makes an EPICALLY bad decision? Like seriously..... I am still laughing after a call and it's been 2 hours
No backups?

I was infuriated after a call with a past co-worker about the changes being implemented on perfectly good, rock solid infrastructure. Which took months to come to the decision upon.
Why am I upset, because I care about the things I work on and don't want to see them torn down for fruitless reasons. . .

They were deemed "not critical" so disabled.

Evidently, the didn't do a BIA or deemed that "not critical" as well.
-
@scottalanmiller and @NerdyDad I've heard both of those recently...

I assume this means he disabled all of his computer networking, because it was not critical either? Of course I'm joking - as Scott would ask - How do you make that type of leap?
But at minimum, I'm sure you asked - so you're turning off all your DBs and your file servers because they aren't critical to your business either.

My question would be, if they're not critical to the business, let alone necessary, then why have them at all? There are levels of necessity, but that's determined based on risk and impact on the business and business needs. A file server could be very critical or minimally critical depending on how the business uses that file server and how long that can be without it before more serious consequences occur.

I see where you're going. But the likeliness that there is no long term data that has any value seems very unlikely.
