Youngest has a fever too. Ugh
sorry to hear the family is all down. When are you scheduled to depart?
Just found out my niece hit a fever of 105 this week... seems like it's been going around
Gotta leave Saturday to go to the airport. Sunday we get on the flight to Oslo. Will be in Rome on Sunday night late.
Goodness... Hope everybody starts feeling better!

There is literally nothing about the Nintendo Switch that I find intriguing.

Not even how Nintendo can stay afloat after releasing crap product after crap product for years on end?

I have been wondering that myself - I just wonder if they are doing something in Japan that is keeping them upright.

I would think that the iPad/App Store one-two punch would have taken them out. I mean, how many video game options do toddlers really need, anyway?

Their handheld market is crazy. Not sure how long they will be on top there though with iOS and Android devices making it super easy to game on the road.

I've come to feel the same about Sony. They were such a great company back in the day, but I think in the last 25 years they must get something right just often enough to keep the doors open. Such a shame.

The number of devices is definitely reducing. The day of the specialize device (on one hand) seems to be greatly reducing.
But then I look at things like the Amazon Echo or the Google what's it called? the home? well these are specialize devices, so I guess I don't know what I'm talking about

To be fair I like some of their IPs. Super Mario Galaxy was decent and I really enjoyed the most recent Zelda games, Ocarina, Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker. But basically anything released since the Game Cube (and most stuff on the Game Cube for that matter) has been utter crap. I even liked Luigi's Mansion.

Services are definitely something that a lot of these old school companies are moving too.
MS is moving away from the one time sold software that has to be repurchased (upgraded) every few years to a rent forever model. Combine that with online services and you have a practically new company.

Nintendo is a front for a drug smuggling operation.
So they have plenty of money to waste....

Updating production server iDRAC firmware... again. Apparently you can't jump from 1.66.65 to 2.40.40.40 without an intermediate version. Hooray for tedium!
lol why did you allow yourself to be so far behind?
Kids love Nintendo and they own the rights to a lot of extremely popular franchises like Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong etc.

Kids do? Kids today? Maybe they do, but I would expect it to be your generation that likes it more than kids today.

I would tend to agree with that. There is some room for the IP for the younger generation but overall I doubt many are playing it.

You guys are actually right. Hm. I guess it's just the IP's they own then.

Just heard the tale of a friend's uncle (former nasa scientist) who, when applying to work at Northrop Grumman, encrypted his resume and nobody could open it.... He got the job.
That one sounds a little farfetched unless there was something else that got him the job in addition to the resume.
When he made a follow up call, he apparently got to talk to the right people. Plus, the contents of the resume, once decrypted by him, actually got him the job.

Some of the worst game IPs ever. Super Mario was a good franchise long, long ago. Zelda is the worst JRPG franchise ever - terrible stories, terrible gameplay, terrible graphics. DK.... LOL.

Right, so the encrypted bit was really just an aside. Like... I drove to my interview in an '86 Cavalier and I got the job. But there is no connection. Or mentioning what I ate for breakfast before getting the job. He likely would have gotten the same job submitting the resume normally.

I'm not personally a gigantic Zelda fan (I don't hate it either) but Zelda fans are some of the most die-hard fans alive.

Sure, but they are the same people who generally hate video games or are not really into it. It's the mainstream cosplay culture people. Zelda is the big marketing name that they know, so they wear clothes with Link on it and talk about it - because they aren't gamers. It's gaming for people who want to be hipsters and act like gamers but aren't sure what gamers actually play so mention what they've seen on an ad from Target.
