I would tend to agree with that. There is some room for the IP for the younger generation but overall I doubt many are playing it.

Some of the worst game IPs ever. Super Mario was a good franchise long, long ago. Zelda is the worst JRPG franchise ever - terrible stories, terrible gameplay, terrible graphics. DK.... LOL.

Sure, but they are the same people who generally hate video games or are not really into it. It's the mainstream cosplay culture people. Zelda is the big marketing name that they know, so they wear clothes with Link on it and talk about it - because they aren't gamers. It's gaming for people who want to be hipsters and act like gamers but aren't sure what gamers actually play so mention what they've seen on an ad from Target.

Maybe, but it feels pretty fishy. That's so trivial to do. Making something encrypted that is useful (encrypts quickly, decryption is practical, etc.) is what is hard, not making something impossible to open.

Oh, I know the game. That's not a Zelda clone by any stretch at all. That's just a modern throwback ARPG. I think you are confusing the genre and the 8/16bit style with the Zelda games. Zelda games have been 3D for the majority of the series lifespans. Zelda in no way implies a certain style of graphics or age of game.

All this talk about Zelda makes me want to go play it again... and the follow up ones as well. I can't say I've played anything after the first SNES one.
The first (and only) SNES title is, from what I can tell, the highlight of the series. The two that game before it, like most games of their era, were "novelty" games - fun because they were video games, not because they were good. The SNES let them make a decent game, but not on par with other JRPGs on the same system. But it was a big deal because it was Nintendo's own IP and part of an existing franchise.
The N64 took Zelda in new directions (blurry ones, mostly) and some people, like my wife, feel that this was the highlight of the series. I've tried these titles over and over and found them to be awful. Terrible graphics, terrible gameplay, worthless storytelling (if any.) I keep trying Zelda titles trying to find what people claim to like about them and keep finding them empty, half assed marketing fodder. Wind Waker is the best that I've played, and it's awful.
