Brother in law stepped on my foot and totally broke my big toenail. Bent it all the way back and stepped down on it. Bleeding a bit, it's making a mess.

That happened to me once in a basketball game.
Hurts like hell.
Plus you'll enjoy weeks of no toe nail. On which many a'people will step.
