I got to talk with Kevin Greenwood @ Scale for a bit last night. I really like some of the changes they are doing to their system!

Looks like NTG will be working with them a lot and we are also going to be reselling as well. We are also getting stuff for the lab. @scottalanmiller , @art_of_shred and @Mike-Ralston are really excited about that.

Just ran out of milk here. Have to go walk to the little local store here. It's at least half a mile, maybe more. And there is a LOT of sun out there.

@Minion-Queen Can I play too? I haven't got to see their new firmware yet. I know they made some major changes since the last version I saw.

I like their ideas and the hardware looks nice, but I just do not see it ever in the SMB space. SME or maybe the largest side of SMB, but certianly not in most places where I am working.
Shops that I feel can make good use of Scale's stuff generally have an IT staff of their own (for better or worse) and I do not get in those.

Their target is actually in the SMB space... For what you get with Scale, you could spend $100k easy on SAN, and 3 or 4 Servers...
The company that I worked with that went to Scale actually saved about 30k over replacing 3 VMware servers, and adding in Flash cache to improve performance withour SAN, and to grow our VMware infrastructure from 3 nodes to 4. Compared to our (entry level?) HP / Left Hand SAN, the Scale cluster is blistering fast.
Plus if you get 3 servers, and decide you need more computing power, just add another node -- and you get extra storage too... If you really only need storage, they make nodes for just that.
I tend to get relatively excited when talking about them, lol. We had such a good experience with them and all.

I know it is their target market, but I just do not see it being useful at any of my existing clients.

I have never had a bad interaction with them either.

This is good to know. 8-)The cost of the devices versus the cost of internal storage. It simply makes no sense for any of the clients I currently have that have servers on site.
