TWC upping speeds in cities on the Google fiber expansion list.

That ping was high because for some reason it picked Austin as the point against which it was checking. If it picks something local its drops down to 15 also.

Guess there is no comparison to the current rural nature of Central Kentucky.....

Wow. I'm in no mans land. I live in an unincorporated area. that has a population of 902 people. I have to drive 20 min to get to the nearest store.

(facepalm)Well in reality - @JaredBusch set my router to limit the speed for now so that my desk phone works. so that might be a bit of it.
Also I have to look at my bill,.. but I think I am on the low side of the plan - The basic plan...

Ah, Comcast only lets you get the mid grade one if you don't have cable tv as well. so that's part of the reason I have this package.

My area - Extreme and Ultimate... limited to 5MB upload..

Charter has 5mbps up on all their packages, you only get different down speeds. They do not currently offer a 10mbps up but are supposed to offer it eventually. Last spring I was told soon, and it is still not deployed. So meh.

I feel your pain. A lot of inner city places get speeds similar to that.

TWC sucks. Period.

I've had very few issues with them over the years.
I've never had anything but issues with them.

I've had them off and on for the past 4 years... no real issues, they do go down but generally only when we have flooding. In Rochester I had their ultimate package... that was great and never had an issue with it.

I've not paid much attention to the down time as of yet. Most of the down time we have had is due to power outages here at the house. Even though much of the electronics is on UPS units,.. I'll generally power them off to conserve the batteries. I will run the internet from time to time just to check in when needed. Btu the power outages haven't been long enough to be overly concerned with.

Ive had good luck with them regarding home service since 1998 (first cable modem) and TV since 1990. Sunday onto Monday night there was a storm. Apparently the storm knocked out the amp for the neighborhood, the amp is in MY back yard. they were there yesterday in the morning replacing the amp.

To be fair it did take then three attempts to install the service at my Rochester Apartment. Then four attempts to do so at my house in upstate NY. The installer didn't bring everything he needed the first time, he "missed" us the second and third time, even though my fiance works from the house and was there during the time he was supposedly there. It took almost a month to get internet at my house because of that. So I can't say their customer service is great... but their internet service is fairly good. Oh on the last time he was there he told us we had to rent a modem because the one we purchased, a Motorola Surfboard, wasn't the right kind. When I showed him the compatibility list on the website and got him to call his support line we had the thing up and running in 5 minutes.

I've seen very little issues with TWC or Comcast. AT&T seems to be the odd one out that likes to do things weird. Verizon DSL sucks around here but I think it's their cabling, not the service. I have no experience with FiOS though.

I think that can be said of almost all telecom companies.

FiOS is pretty decent. Used it in Texas. Worked very well. Not sure it was as good as Optimum Online cable in New York, but quite good.

I've only had amazing customer service with Optimum.
