Adventures in DSL land last night. For a small while, the ping between my router and the other end of the PPPoE connection was 200ms.

If it makes you feel any better,... my In-Laws had fiber installed yesterday... They are rural... DSL most sorta works out there and the only other option is Sat...

I can't get Fiber likely for another 3-5 years. and I'm about 5 miles from where it currently stops.

I'm on the waiting list for Stalink, and I'm doing some research into fiber or possible a dedicated copper connection. Both of which are a non-trivial expense, but if it might make sense as an investment into the property, then I'll consider the build out.

@eddiejennings I took a look at Starlink, it'd be pretty outstanding to have 'net access in the middle of the Simpson Desert etc etc, but at $135/month, forget it.

Fiber was a member of the East German mens 4 x 200 metre swimming relay team, that competed at the 1874 winter Olympics in Tasmania.

Well, storing financial data in a non-production database without basic production protections... seems like someone was thinking this wasn't very important data.

Haha, you think $135/mo is expensive? Damn, must be nice to not live in the EEUU. Because that's pretty cheap there!

Here in Nicaragua good Internet is around $30/mo. So it would be expensive for us too, but not compared to commercial fiber which is a bit more.
