MS Office vs. LibreOffice
-
I'm against paying for MS Office. That said, I think I just came across something I wish was in LibreOffice that doesn't - as far as I can tell -seem to be in LibreOffice.
Move a page.
In MS Office, I have been able to move a whole page with just a few clicks. However, I have just discovered that LibreOffice doesn't appear to have that function. I'm transcribing some years of notes, and plan to re-organize them in time. But - as far as I can tell, I'll have to cut/copy and paste from old to new location.
Is it possible that I've missed it, and its there - or is this a valid pet-peeve.

From what I've read, LibreOffice Writer doesn't support moving pages. Besides you, I never knew you can move pages around in Word. I've done that with PDFs but not word/text documents.
-
how the fuck would this even work?
pages are not a thing unless you manually put in page breaks.
-
@gjacobse I also don't know what you mean.
Are you talking about Word and Writer?
In Word, you can move paragraphs, sections... but not page. Page is not an object. -

Never tried that. But sounds like a nice feature, in theory.

Definitely complicated, no question.

Yea - Okay. Sure. And maybe that is the difference in thought there. typical text is start to finish. there isn't any 'formatting' per say.
In this case of the document I create two years ago (MS Word), and the one I am working on creating now (LO) I do indeed have manual page breaks - creating sections of sorts.
And may this is the difference.

Oh-kay . Yes - you are right... and yet you are (slightly) wrong.
In this case, while Libre Office is ''content flow'' as opposed to ''page based'' The project is page based - something I was doing, but didn't know exactly how to explain.
thusly;
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/91386/can-i-change-the-page-order-in-writer/From your question, your document is "page-based". Go to the logical consequence of your choice and store your "pages" as independent documents. To guarantee a common look-and-feel, I'd recommend to design them from a common template.
Then, you create your "synthesis" document (the one meant for printing) as a master document which references all your "page" documents. Read the LO User's guide if you aren't familiar with the concept.
In the master document, the included "pages" can be reordered from the Navigator panel (F5) with "up" and "down" buttons after selecting the "page" you want to move. In essence, it is equivalent to @RGB-es copy-and-paste solution without the risk of incorrectly selecting page content or overwriting other text.
This is basically what I had done in Word...
