Looking for a NC host for an Open Source project
-
We're looking to make life easier for anyone who uses XCP-NG and Xen Orchestra (specifically XOCE) and are wondering if someone would be willing to provide a NC host that I could upload an XVA file for direct download.
Currently @Danp and I have tested and found a few solutions that should work but would feel better working with this community to host the file.
The amount of bandwidth used I can't estimate (sorry) and the file currently clocks in at 8Gb (working on getting this smaller).
Thanks in advance!

Why not a torrent? That is how debian and ubuntu iso's can be downloaded with good bandwidth.

Because we would need seeds for the file. I did consider it though but I can't guarantee my or anyone else's systems would be online for it. Though the same applies to a NC installation.

Yes, someone needs to seed the files but it could be from any computer at any time. Doesn't have to be a server. And you can easily set how much bandwidth you are willing to give up.

Is the file a turnkey XOCE installation?

Yes, simply import it and it turns on from the hypervisor shell.

Just open a BitTorrent client like Transmission. Select File > New and add your source file.
Now your computer starts seeding the file. Then right click on the torrent and select "Copy magnet link to clipboard".
You get something that looks like this:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:147fbb2150e62d9ab1b28c05b22517926e27c882&dn=debian-10.4.0-amd64-netinst.isoIf you put that inside a link you get this:
Debian 10.4.0 amd64 netinstI don't think you need a tracker at all when you use magnet files.
Now everybody in the world that has the magnet link can download and seed it without anything more than a BitTorrent client.
Does it get more serverless than that?
-
Post a magnet link and I'll see if it works.
You can post the sha256 hash of the file and I'll check it when I have it downloaded.

Can the torrent be downloaded without additional tools? Remember, script is designed to run from within Dom0 of CH / XCP-ng, so it isn't recommended to install a bunch of extra stuff.

You'd need transmission-cli, which is just like having an FTP client or similar. Pretty small.
-
Transmission-cli is not available on the hypervisor, so magnets or torrents in general are out. If no one is willing to offer up some space on an existing NC installation that's fine.
We're able to make this work using other solutions, albeit just a bit more of a headache.

@DustinB3403 are you not prioritzing the seed?

It's going and I don't have it limited. Can you hit retry on the file?eee
-
your seed does not seem to stay on consistently.

Sorry about that, it could be that my host is a laptop, I'm trying to make a smaller source anyways if you're trying to offer NC space.

Would Wasabi be an acceptable host for said file? That'd be 8TB x $0.06 = $0.48/month to host the file. I would just make another bucket to store just it in, and make the file publicly accessable.

It would, but we were hoping that it wouldn't have to cost the file is currently 1.7Gb, I'm troubleshooting a curl timeout issue, not sure if its with NC or my host or what. . .
The file currently lives here Direct download
