I thought Hangouts died. We tried to use it at a company two years ago and google was phasing it out at the time and we couldn't get it.
The app for Google Hangouts died, the platform all merged into Google Hangouts (and uses the google meet app etc).
It's weird, but it's all one unified platform now.
