odd.. I work from home ; Get more done

Not odd, the entire industry has known for decades that you send people home to work, you bring them to the office for politics and to serve the egos of managers. Nearly everyone is way more productive at home. That's why nearly all good companies don't just allow it, they encourage it.

as that may be true: i was saying odd because of hours and how I have to put less hours on my time card because I worked from home.

Does this equate to less pay?

not hourly, but over all, Yes.

Wait a min - if you're not hourly - WTFC? the number you give them only matters if you pay is tied to it....

      My hourly rate doesn't change.

my overall pay for the day changes.

Something doesn't make sense here, either you're salary or hourly, or salary with overtime benefits (like in NY with many IT professionals).

Your rate can never go lower than your base hourly rate, say $20/hour for "missing an hour of work"

My hourly rate doesnt' change from xx.xx, My pay for the day would be an hour short making for less hours of the day affecting overall pay not the rate at which I am paid.

As it should be - you only worked 7 hours, not 8.....

                    8 AM to noon = 4 hours
                    1 PM to 4 PM = 3 hours
                    total hours = 7 hours

where is my math wrong here?

OH - so... there's no problem here because you are being paid completely accurately.

So what the fuck are we talking about then? And if you say you've been shorted an hour - you better show me how you were shorted that hour compared to working the exact same time frame in the office vs home.

my overall pay for the day changes.

Something doesn't make sense here, either you're salary or hourly, or salary with overtime benefits (like in NY with many IT professionals).

Your rate can never go lower than your base hourly rate, say $20/hour for "missing an hour of work"

This is not New Guys - I'm Hourly .
have been since I started and will not go Salary until they make me.
The old boss had in the past mess with peoples rates for certain issues. add that to the list of why i want out of here

My hourly rate doesnt' change from xx.xx, My pay for the day would be an hour short making for less hours of the day affecting overall pay not the rate at which I am paid.

As it should be - you only worked 7 hours, not 8.....

                          8 AM to noon = 4 hours
                          1 PM to 4 PM = 3 hours
                          total hours = 7 hours

where is my math wrong here?

                          thats what i said

OH - so... there's no problem here because you are being paid completely accurately.

So what the fuck are we talking about then? And if you say you've been shorted an hour - you better show me how you were shorted that hour compared to working the exact same time frame in the office vs home.

The way it was explained to me was only put what you actively worked IE on calls, working on projects etc. not the total time spent in front of the computer.

Illegal, you are paid for your time that you are expected to be able to work, your boss keeping you busy doesn't affect the time you're "there and ready to work".

You aren't there and ready to work for your lunch break, so 1 hour. The assumption, generally is you work an 8 hour day (at a minimum) for 40 hours a week (full-time).

If you worked from 8-4 with a 1 hour lunch, that's 7 hours. But your boss can't tell you "only report what was billable hours to me (so I don't have to pay for the potential 1 hour at the end of day) where you might be closing up tickets, organizing your desk or otherwise doing work for the business."

Your boss making that statement is completely illegal.

Gotcha, so what did you mean when you said?

OK - but you said you spend 6.5 hours working on client calls - and .5 hours reading work email... that's 7 hours... Are you saying you're only going to be paid for 6.5 hours?

                                        Thats how I understand it

That's illegal, reading email is work. Someone has to do it so other things can be done. Did you also have to clean up your work area in your home so you can work tomorrow? Charge for that time too.

I know they say don't burn bridges, but the minute you get another job I hope you throw this company under the biggest bus possible. .

Thanks for the heads up. On our systems at work that use it, it seems to have a 1MB block file. Is that the norm for XFS?

XFS block size default is 4KB. Maximum is 64KB.

I wonder if it's the underlying SAN doing something then. If I create a word document and make the contents "Hello World", it takes up 1MB, even though the files size is only a few k.

Just finished a phone interview that seemed to go very well. Not the really nice role I applied for, but even closer to home and the ability to work remotely.

Unless it's working for the company @WrCombs is working for

Yeah, no. It's no POS place (both meanings work)
