Skype supports using web browsers too, why couldn't your boss join via Chrome?

      aww - Hadn't considered that.

My boss does not have a Skype account, not even sure if she has a Microsoft account.

The vendor sent the invite - the invite tries to launch the app - it launched S4B which of course she can't log into and was instantly stuck. Instead of calling me to get it fixed - she rescheduled the meeting. Then she called to inform me I need to fix this for her.

So back to the web version - I don't think clicking the link will ever launch the web version, so going that route will likely be more challenging.

Something to play with I guess.

This may not be exactly useful in this situation but I have Zoom installed for everyone. There have been times when users were sent a webex invite and they couldn't get it to work for some reason. They then just used Zoom and emailed the invite. The other person clicks the link and Zoom installs itself and the meeting is setup. It's pretty painless even for my people.

My boss had an online meeting today - and of course this presenter wanted to use Skype, plain ol' Skype, not Skype for Business.

Skype for Business is installed on Windows 10 by default (which I have not removed) but seemingly, Skype for Business will only allow logons from MS business accounts (which I suppose makes sense).

So - my boss couldn't do her meeting because she was missing the needed software.

Considering all the different types of meeting software, how do you handle deployment of these clients?

I know in the case of Webex - they have a client that can run from user space, that doesn't require installing or admin rights to use - I guess at this point, I'm a bit surprised that Skype doesn't have this option - for ease of use, if nothing else.

Joining a meeting with a real piece of meeting software does not require anything to be installed. Skype is not a business solution.

Edit: Yes, most solutions will push to install their client, but it is not required. Real solutions allow web viewing.

But you are choosing to do business with a vendor that doesn't know how to actually have a meeting. Seems like this is a bit of a joke.

No no, his Boss doesn't know how to join a meeting (regardless of the platform). The issue is squarely on @Dashrender's bosses shoulders.

Web page, no need for an install on any OS.

I use it all of the time, definitely user space.

yeah - You tell her that ... I mean sure, now that I've been reminded of the web portal for Skype, I'll show that to her - and it would have been grand if the host would have said - hey you can log into Skype's webpage and go from there - but then the boss would have had to create an account, etc, etc, etc... shit she doesn't have to do on Webex...

Somebody should let Cisco know that... webex has to install a browser plug in at the least, full blown bloated desktop client if you aren't paying attention.

I think it's pretty ridiculous to think that anyone in Cisco actually things of Webex as a business tool. Can't think of any meeting software less ready for a business setting.
